WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump headed to Bethpage Black in New York on Friday, September 26, accompanied by his granddaughter Kai Trump for the opening day of the Ryder Cup.

Before departing the White House, professional lip reader Nicola Hickling observed that the President exchanged a mix of candid and upbeat remarks with an officer aboard Marine One.

Trump admitted to things 'not being great'

Lip reader Nicola Hickling informed Irish Star that the president light-heartedly commented, "I will try and enjoy a little of the game". She claimed that the POTUS was in conversation with an officer aboard Marine One.

She further added that Trump asked, "How are you?" before the officer responded with something inaudible. Trump allegedly replied, "Well, it's not been great," his mood seemingly turning sour.

As the officer allegedly responded to Trump with something inaudible, the POTUS allegedly commented postively that he hoped that it "would be a good game", according to Hickling.

Moreover, the lip reader added that at that moment, Kai got off the helicopter with a big smile on her face.

Hickling added that Trump allegedly said, "I've never experienced such stupidity as what happened the other day, everything and everyone, we are doing everything we can."

"Hopefully it’ll all come good, we gonna turn things around, it's a hindrance dealing with these people," Trump allegedly added.

The lip reader claimed that after snapping a salute during a brief pause, Trump said, "I will try and enjoy a little of the game."

However, it is unknown what the POTUS was referring to.

The lip-reading at the Ryder Cup comes after Trump and First Lady, Melania, were captured seemingly having a serious conversation on Marine One after landing on the White House's South Lawn.

Trump arrives at 2025 Ryder Cup 'to try and help' Team USA

Trump landed at Bethpage Black after hearing Team USA had a rough start. Bryson DeChambeau’s 344-yard opening drive had just been recorded when the POTUS arrived.

Wearing spiked golf shoes, Trump told reporters, “The team is not doing so well. So when I heard that, I said, ‘Let’s go on the plane, we have to try and help them.’”

He was greeted with chants of “USA” and stood for the national anthem, performed by a local firefighter and followed by a dramatic four-jet flyover. His appearance drew attention from both fans and players.

This was Trump’s first professional golf event as a spectator since August 2023. Earlier in 2025, he attended a LIV event at his Miami property and played in a pro-am at his Washington, DC, course.
