'Makes me so happy': Fans agree wholeheartedly as Paul McCartney praises Beyonce's cover of 'Blackbird'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Paul McCartney has expressed his full support for Beyonce amid ongoing criticism over her country album 'Cowboy Carter'.
The legend praised the Queen Bee for covering the Beatles' iconic track ‘Blackbird’ for the album.
“I am so happy with @beyonce’s version of my song ‘Blackbird.’ I think she does a magnificent version of it and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it!”

In his post, McCartney also talked about how the two connected over the song and wished their collaboration would bring racial harmony.
“I spoke to her on FaceTime and she thanked me for writing it and letting her do it,” he revealed.
The Beatles legend added, “I told her the pleasure was all mine and I thought she had done a killer version of the song. When I saw the footage on the television in the early 60s of the black girls being turned away from school, I found it shocking and I can’t believe that still in these days there are places where this kind of thing is happening right now.”
“Anything my song and Beyoncé’s fabulous version can do to ease racial tension would be a great thing and makes me very proud.”
For the song, McCartney was also given co-producing credit on the new recording, reports NBCNews.
In an earlier interview with GQ, McCartney talked about how the Beatles ended up writing ‘Blackbird.’
“I was sitting around with my acoustic guitar, and I’d heard about the Civil Rights troubles that were happening in the ’60s in Alabama, Mississippi, Little Rock in particular,” the singer-songwriter said.
“So that was in my mind, and I just thought, ‘It would be really good if I could write something that if it ever reached any of the people going through those problems, it might give them a little bit of hope. So I wrote ‘Blackbird.’”
“In England, a bird is a girl, so I was thinking of a Black girl going through this; now is your time to arise; set yourself free; take these broken wings.”
Another cover from the album, ‘Jolene’ by country legend Dolly Parton, has also divided fans and critics.
Singer Lily Allen criticized Beyonce's cover on the BBC Sounds podcast “Miss Me?”
"It's very weird that you'd cover the most successful songs in that genre," Allen said.
Co-host Miquita Oliver joined in, "I don't think the 'Jolene' one is good. ... I feel like Beyoncé could've done a bit more with it or maybe picked something that was a little less big to cover."

"Beyonce is such a cool artist. I'm glad she can spread the beatles music to different audiences❤", said another.
One user said, "Not sure why some are upset, I'm not a fan of Beyonce, but I quite like this cover, it's neat, Paul liked it, so what's the big deal?"
"This makes me so happy to read, as both a massive Beatles fan and Beyonce fan," another music lover praised.
