WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) suggested on Wednesday that she partly holds Republicans responsible for the 2022 hammer attack on her husband Paul Pelosi, according to the New York Post.

When asked if the former House Speaker holds accountable those who have “targeted” and “demonized” her for the brutal assault on her then-82-year-old husband by David DePape, Pelosi told MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell, "I think they take some responsibility for that."

The California Democrat accused Republicans of engaging in the "politics of personal destruction" since the Clinton administration and stated that in recent years, the party has intensified its attacks on her. The 84-year-old lawmaker claimed that these attacks "fueled" her husband's assailant.

What did Nancy Pelosi say regarding the GOP and their role in attack?

“The Republican Party with cloven feet, head horns — really, actually, they started under Clinton, Hillary and Bill Clinton. The politics of personal destruction and then they transferred that to me,” Pelosi remarked.

“When they were doing it they went into a different territory of political debate and it fed a flame, it fueled a flame,” she claimed.

Speaker Emerita Pelosi asserted earlier this week, during an interview on ABC's ‘Good Morning America,’ that she feels guilty for the brutal attack because she believes that DePape was driven by political motives, and Paul Pelosi is “not very political.”

“What was sad about my husband’s situation is he’s not very political,” Pelosi explained. “They were after me. And I feel guilty about his paying the price.”

DePape attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer after breaking into the couple's San Francisco home.

DePape, who had delved into online conspiracy theories, admitted during the trial that Paul Pelosi "was never my target" before being sentenced to 30 years in prison in May.

Internet skewers Nancy Pelosi for blaming Republicans

Netizens were seemingly irked by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's assertion that Republicans are at least partly responsible for the brutal 2022 hammer attack against her husband Paul.

One X user remarked, "Donald Trump was shot because she and her minions called him a threat to Democracy for years, stop it."

Another user snarked, "Because she’s never said anything to upset people with different political beliefs."

Another user asked, "By that logic didn't the democrats (at the least) cause the attack on Trump with their rhetoric calling him Hitler/a threat to democracy?"

One X user said, "I blame her for Donald Trump’s shooting."

Another user quipped, "At least she didn’t blame the hammer. If it was a gun, she would have blamed the gun first. THEN republicans."

Another user wrote, "Okay, so I guess that means we can blame her and the rest of the Democrats for the attempted assassination of Trump."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Of course she blames the Republicans. that's all the Democrats do is blame Republicans."
