LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent podcast appearance, Kristen Stewart, known for her role in The Twilight saga, unleashed a scathing attack on Marvel movies, labeling them a "fucking nightmare."

The actress, who has primarily focused on indie films in recent years, expressed her reluctance to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, citing the studio system's algorithmic and impersonal nature, as per Variety.

"I will likely never do a Marvel movie, it sounds like a f*****g nightmare, actually," Stewart told Amanda Hirsch on the 'Not Skinny but Not Fat' podcast.

Stewart acknowledged her fondness for making "big movies" that attract a large audience but emphasized the need for a dramatic shift in the system for her to consider a Marvel project. "The system would have to change," she said, adding that she might consider it if Greta Gerwig, the acclaimed director, were at the helm.

"And so therefore what ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it. So likely not. But maybe the world changes, that’s what I’m saying. How could I tell you no when maybe one day, if Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it," Stewart remarked.

Kristen Stewart's comments about Marvel echo a sentiment shared by her mentor Jodie Foster

Stewart's comments echo a sentiment shared by her mentor, Jodie Foster, who recently described superhero movies as "a phase" that has overstayed its welcome.

Foster expressed her admiration for standout superhero flicks like 'Iron Man' and 'Black Panther' but asserted that such movies do not change her life or align with her reasons for becoming an actor.

"Hopefully people will be sick of it soon," Foster told Elle magazine. "The good ones — like 'Iron Man,' 'Black Panther,' 'The Matrix' — I marvel at those movies, and I'm swept up in the entertainment of it, but that's not why I became an actor."

Internet outraged in wake of Kristen Stewart's attitude toward Marvel Cinematic Universe

Stewart's remarks ignited a firestorm of criticism on social media, with many users slamming the actress for her dismissive attitude towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One critic on X quipped, "Kristen Stewart hasn’t starred in a movie that has broken even in twelve years."

A third user bluntly remarked, "We don’t need her." Similarly, another voice chimed in, asserting, "No one in the fandom wants her either." A fifth user took a jab at Stewart's track record, commenting, "Coming from the box office poison," while a sixth user expressed disinterest, stating, "That’s okay; we wouldn’t want to see you in one anyway."
