CLEVELAND, OHIO: Senator Joe Manchin, a 76-year-old Democrat representing West Virginia, has expressed interest in running for the presidency in 2024 as part of a third-party bid with the No Label political movement.

Senator Manchin, who is not seeking re-election to his Senate seat in 2024, has stated that he would consider running alongside Senator Mitt Romney, a 76-year-old Republican from Utah, on a unity ticket, per a report by DailyMail.

During a discussion held in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday, February 15, Senator Manchin spoke in hypothetical terms and indicated that he would ask Senator Romney to be his running mate.

Both senators are widely regarded as moderates within their respective parties.

As the senator's decision to run remains uncertain, many are closely monitoring the political landscape and the potential implications of a unity ticket featuring Senators Manchin and Romney.

What did Joe Manchin reveal during  breakfast discussion?

The West Virginia Senator said, “Hypothetically, if I was picking my running mate, really who I would ask right now is Mitt Romney.”

Manchin also stated that he would consider former Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) as a vice presidential candidate in a split-party ballot.

“Rob's a dear friend of mine,” Manchin remarked. “What a good man.”

No Labels, a political organization, has expressed its intention to participate in the 2024 general election by fielding a unity ticket that would comprise a Democrat and a Republican.

There has been speculation that West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin might be selected to lead the unity ticket.

However, despite the rumors, Manchin has reiterated that he has not yet decided whether he will run for the presidency.

He remarked on this subject during his appearance at the City Club of Cleveland breakfast, which was a part of his nationwide 'listening tour'.

The tour began after he announced his decision not to seek another term in the U.S. Senate.

After his session on Thursday, Manchin acknowledged that he has not ruled out running for the presidency.

“Third party run, everything is on the table,” Manchin shared with reporters, according to NBC News.

“Nothing's off the table. I'm still evaluating all that. Super Tuesday pretty much would be a deadline that tells you where you are,” he added.

This means that Senator Manchin could decide by March 5 whether he wants to enter the race, and if he doesn't, No Labels may look for another candidate to lead the third-party unity ticket.

What did Senator Joe Manchin say about President Joe Biden?

During the breakfast meeting, Senator Joe Manchin criticized the political stance of President Joe Biden by stating that he had moved "so far to the left."

However, he also commended the 81-year-old incumbent president for shifting towards the political center on issues such as border security, while simultaneously voicing his disapproval of the president's policies in that area.

“First of all, if you want to blame Joe Biden, he's totally guilty as charged on opening up the border and making it what we have today,” Manchin argued. “And I've told him I've been disagreeing with him from Day One.”

Joe Biden's age has become an increasingly popular line of attack for his opponents, and Senator Manchin, who is only five years younger than the Commander-in-Chief, has also seized the opportunity.

Manchin remarked on Biden during the forum, “He's a little older than I am.”

City Club CEO Dan Moulthrop who was the moderator in Thursday’s forum interjected the West Virginia Senator, “You were like a freshman when he was a senior?”

Manchin responds, “Pretty much.”

Moulthrop proceeded to repeatedly question Manchin on his presidential intentions in 2024.

“Guys, listen, I'm not running for anything,” the 76-year-old Democrat Senator insisted. “I'm basically running to try to get people involved.”

However, his listening tour has fueled speculations that he is really considering running for the White House with No Labels party.

As part of his listening tour, Senator Manchin visited New Hampshire last month, ahead of the state's first-in-the-nation presidential primary election on January 23rd.

It is worth noting that Manchin's daughter launched ‘Americans Together’ group, which could potentially serve as a platform for his presidential bid preparations.

With the motto "Let's get s**t done," Americans Together aims to denounce extremism on both ends of the political spectrum.

A description of the group on its official website states, “We stand against extremism in politics. It has taken over our political system and taken away our voice. As proud Americans, we agree on more than we disagree.”

The group’s statement continues, “We demand that our politicians put country before party to get things done. Enough is enough.”

Internet mocks Senator Joe Manchin's secretive ploy to run for the White House

People on X ridiculed the Democrat West Virginia Senator for his ingenious idea to run on the 2024 general election ballot alongside Republican Senator Mitt Romney for No Labels Party.

One X user remarked: "Vote for that ticket???"

Another user said, "Joe Manchin just sealed his future, he’s done with politics. He has none. Showed his true colors. DC’s next Lobbyist."

Another user wrote: "That’s a ticket no one would support."

One user claimed: "Hell no! I'm sorry I ever voted for Romney and I sure would not vote for that ticket. But it is telling that Romney is really a Democrat!"

Another X user quipped: "No way. Romney is no bueno"

Finally, this user tweeted: "Well there you have it. Joe Manchin just lost ALL CREDITAIBILITY - Mit Romney, VP … I thought Manchin has some good characteristics and worth considering for an executive run. IF he would even hint his ‘running mate’ would be Mitt Romney he is OUT for everything."
