KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, has humorously likened playing with teammate Travis Kelce to interacting with his young daughter, Sterling.

Following the Chiefs’ win against the New Orleans Saints on October 7, Mahomes shared this amusing comparison during a post-game discussion.

Patrick Mahomes compares planning play with Travis Kelce to conversations with toddler daughter

Patrick Mahomes, 29, recounted a moment from the game when Travis Kelce, 35, took a play into his own hands.

Kelce caught a 5-yard check-down from Mahomes and ran horizontally across the field before lateralling the ball to running back Samaje Perine. This caught the Saints off-guard and allowed Perine to set up a fourth-and-1 opportunity that the Chiefs eventually converted.

After the game, Mahomes recalled the conversation he had had with Kelce, "I'm shaking my head because I told him before the play, I said, 'I'm going to throw it to you so we can get into field goal range and he underhand shoveled it across the entire field."

Mahomes then playfully compared Kelce to his three-year-old daughter. "It’s like I’m talking to Sterling.”

This light-hearted remark drew laughter from the reporters present, highlighting Mahomes’ ability to mix humor with his observations about the game.

He further praised Kelce, stating, “That’s Travis, man. He's a special player, and as long as he does anything that works, man, no one's gonna say anything.”

The Chiefs' victory marked their fifth consecutive win of the season, leaving them undefeated so far. With a bye week ahead, their next matchup will be on October 20 against the San Francisco 49ers, a rematch from last year’s Super Bowl LVIII.

Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, is soon to become a father of three. He and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their first child, daughter Sterling Skye, on February 20, 2021, followed by their son, Patrick "Bronze" Lavon Mahomes III, on November 28, 2022.

They are currently expecting their third child. In October 2022, during an episode of 'Football in America', Mahomes discussed his parenting approach. He expressed his intention to "stay out of the way" regarding his children's potential interest in sports.

"I'm going to teach my son, my daughter all the fundamentals and whatever they want to learn. But at the same time, I want to let it be about them," he said, crediting his own parents for not pressuring him in his pursuits.

"That's what my dad did growing up, that's what my parents did. They didn't pressure me to do anything. I think that's why I'm in the position I am today," he said, as per People.
