NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During coverage of Super Tuesday, an MSNBC panel led by Rachel Maddow found amusement in and ridiculed Virginia Republican voters who cited the border and immigration as top priorities.

Joy Reid, a far-left anchor, launched into a critique of White working-class Republican voters, suggesting that their decisions were solely driven by race and overlooking the benefits they were receiving economically from President Joe Biden, whom she described as a "White working-class guy himself."

"They're voting on race," she asserted, adding "They're voting on this idea of an invasion of Brown people over the border."

Jen Psaki and Rachel Maddow criticize Donald Trump's influence on border fears

Jen Psaki, former White House press secretary for President Joe Biden, echoed Reid's sentiment, noting, "Look at some of these exit polls. I live in Virginia. Immigration was the number one issue," as Reid chuckled.

Maddow joined in with a humorous remark, saying, "Well, Virginia does have a border with West Virginia," eliciting laughter from others on the panel.

Former President Donald Trump easily carried Virginia on the night of March 5, securing a series of primary victories over Nikki Haley and solidifying his position as the GOP frontrunner.

The panel referenced exit polls indicating that immigration was a top concern for Republican voters.

Psaki chimed in, expressing bewilderment, "You're thinking like, what? Trump has indoctrinated people with this fear of people who do not look like them being a threat to them."

Maddow voiced frustration, highlighting how during every election cycle, especially when a Democrat holds office, there is a resurgence of focus on border issues.

This is, even though, Republicans have consistently criticized Biden's border policies, particularly as record-breaking numbers of migrants have entered the United States during his administration.

She criticized the tactic, saying, "You make these things an issue, you make them into boogeymen… as long as there's a Democratic incumbent to blame on it."

The panel also criticized Trump for obstructing bipartisan border legislation this year, suggesting that he was not interested in finding a solution to the problem.

Conservatives criticize MSNBC segment as dismissive of border concerns

Conservatives took issue with the segment on MSNBC, viewing it as dismissive and lacking seriousness regarding the border situation.

On March 5, the House Judiciary GOP posted a message on X, stating, "Democrats are laughing about the illegal immigration that’s hurting your city. Maybe they should read about Laken Riley. Disgusting."

To add context, Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University, tragically lost her life while jogging on trails around the University of Georgia campus.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national residing illegally in the United States, has been charged with her murder.

Others voiced their views as well, with one X user writing, "Jen Psaki and Rachel Maddow mock West Virginians for worrying about immigration despite their distance from the border. Athens, GA is 1,211 miles from the border. Ask the parents of Laken Riley if distance matters."

Joseph Walsh, former 2020 Republican presidential candidate noted, "Talking heads laughing AT the American people. Mocking them. Mocking Americans who are concerned about immigration. Pretty damn arrogant & out of touch. Not a good look Dems."

One user wrote, "I have never before seen such a disgusting panel of morons," strongly detesting their actions.

"Send some busses with tents to their neighborhoods. Let’s watch them smile then," another angry viewer expressed.

One user said, "It's ok. They are the real extremists and No one watches anyway."

"Two bigtime losers. MSNBC has a load of them," tagged another X user.
