WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris faced a challenging moment at a Univision Noticias town hall on October 10 when asked to name three positive traits of her political rival, Donald Trump.

Initially pausing to reflect, Harris struggled to provide a direct answer and instead shifted the focus to Trump’s divisive rhetoric.

“Let me start with this. I, I basically— based on a life experience, I know that the vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us,” she began.

She expressed concern over Trump’s approach, stating, “Part of what pains me is the approach that, frankly, Donald Trump and some others have taken, which is to suggest that it’s us versus them, whoever that may be.”

Harris criticized the negative language that fosters fear and division, saying, “And having Americans point fingers at each other, using language that’s about belittling people and calling them names and meant to make them afraid and live in fear. I don’t think that’s healthy for our nation. And I don’t admire that.”

She emphasized her critical stance toward someone aspiring to the presidency, noting, “In fact, I’m quite critical of it coming from someone who wants to be president of the United States.”

Struggling to provide the requested virtues, Harris finally stated, “I think he, um, I think Donald Trump loves his family. And I think that’s very important. I think family is one of the most important things that we can prioritize.”

Harris acknowledges limited interaction with Trump, critiques his alleged Covid-19 actions

She clarified her limited personal knowledge of Trump, admitting, “I don't really know” him, as she only met him face-to-face for the first time during the debate on September 10. “I'd never met him before, so I don’t really have much more to offer you,” she concluded.

This exchange followed Harris's recent comments regarding Trump's alleged actions during the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically his reported sending of tests to Vladimir Putin.

She remarked, “He admires strongmen and he gets played by them because he thinks that they’re his friends and they are manipulating him full time and manipulating him by flattery and with favor.”

Harris highlighted her disapproval of prioritizing adversaries over allies based on shared principles, stating, “Look, I grew up in the neighborhood, some would say you’re getting punked if you stand in favor of somebody who is an adversary over your friends on principles that we all agree on.”

While Trump's team denied the allegations, a spokesperson for the Kremlin later confirmed that Trump “sent us several samples of test kits” in the early days of the pandemic.

Social media reacts to Harris' response on Trump’s traits

Many users took to social media to express their views on Vice President Kamala Harris's struggle to name positive traits about Donald Trump.

One user wrote, "Fair response. Trump doesn't present as virtuous."

Another one added, "Great answer to a bad question."

One user replied, "That was a dumb question IMO. She could have asked something way better than that! Still, Kamala answered in the most honest way."

Another said, "She was too generous. He only “loves” Ivanka, and that’s in a very inappropriate way. Trump has NO redeeming qualities as a human being. NONE. He is literally the most foul, despicable person residing in America today."

One commented, "Can’t blame her Trump has no virtues."

Another user added, "A balanced and thoughtful response, devoid of ridicule and insults. How refreshing to have an adult running for president."
