LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Gosling has opened up about his Oscars nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken in 'Barbie', and how he felt about the snubs of his co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig.

Ryan Gosling can't mess up with the 'Barbie' movie

In a new interview with Variety, Gosling revealed that he "heavily edited" the statement he released after the Oscars nominations were announced, in which he expressed his disappointment that Robbie and Gerwig were not recognized for their work on the film.

"Look, I heavily edited that statement,’" Ryan told the outlet, adding "I think if I say any more about it, I’m going to basically put on a mink and start challenging people to a beach-off on Malibu Beach."

Gosling said he was initially reluctant to take on the role of Ken, but Gerwig convinced him to do it. She even wrote "Ken Ryan Gosling" in the script.

"I wanted to make sure if I was going to do it—I was like, "I can’t mess this up. I can’t be the guy that messed up the Barbie movie. So if I’m going to do it, I have to do more than I know that I’m even capable of," he said.

Ryan Gosling says 'Barbie' is a 'great work of art' that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig created

Gosling praised the film as a "great work of art" that continues to provoke conversation among audiences. "In terms of people’s reactions, the film continues to provoke conversation in every incarnation," he said.

"It keeps provoking this dialogue. It’s the power of this movie. I struggle to compare it to anything. But it’s yet another reason that proves it’s more than a summer blockbuster. It’s a great work of art. That’s what Greta and Margot created," he added.

"It’s the hardest role I’ve ever had to play," Ryan said, adding "It was like a high-wire act—in tiny shorts and no shirt—with no net."

"There were moments when I left 'Blue Valentine' just completely emotionally spent, laying on the floor of the car on the ride home just done—empty. And it was even harder to play Ken. And I thought, ‘How am I feeling that on this film?,’" he added.

'Barbie' received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera, and Best Original Song for Ken’s existential track, 'I’m Just Ken.'

Gosling said he has not been asked to perform the song at the Oscars, but he is "open to it."
