WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Chris Coons, the co-chair of President Joe Biden’s campaign, has defended him saying he has shown no signs of “mental feebleness” and remains “sharp and commanding.”

This comes amid a scathing report from the Wall Street Journal which claimed Biden suffers from various problems and is not fit to run for office.

The publication, which spoke to several anonymous lawmakers and former Biden administrators suggested “behind closed doors" he has shown “signs of slipping."

Sen Chris Coons admits Joe Biden has 'diminished energy'

Acknowledging that Biden, at 81 years old, has “diminished energy” compared to his younger years, Coons expressed frustration over the relentless media focus on the President's verbal slipups and speculation about cognitive decline since winning the 2020 election.

“Of course Joe Biden is over 80 years old, and like any human being over 80 years old, that means there’s a little diminished energy,” Coons told Politico.

He argued that the media should focus more on what he called the “yawning gap” in character, morality, and capability between Biden and former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, The Hill reported.

Sen Chris Coons says Joe Biden has had a 'lifelong stutter'

Coons insisted that the clips highlighting Biden’s slipups are not evidence of mental decline but rather a consequence of his "lifelong stutter" or the result of his demanding schedule and extensive public service career.

“When I say that I find him sharp and commanding, and I have no concerns about his mental acuity, I’m being honest,” Coons said.

Coons pointed out that both Biden and Trump have made similar verbal slips.

“I get a little tired of the relentless focus on what are very minor slipups by President Biden that I see other elected officials of comparable age make regularly, and frankly other elected officials my age make regularly,” Coons, 60, said.

Coons suggested media should focus more on Trump than ask him the same questions about Biden's changing demeanor over the years.

“The number of times I’ve been interviewed about the question, ‘Is Joe Biden the same man he was when he was 60?’ vastly outweighs the numbers of times I’ve been asked, ‘Are you scared about the future of our democracy given what Donald Trump said today?’” he said.

Internet reads into Sen Chris Coons' defense of Joe Biden

Netizens have reacted strongly to Coons’ defense of the 81-year-old President. Comments ranged from skepticism to outright disbelief.

“Don’t believe your lying eyes,” one user wrote, while another questioned, “Has anyone ever believed anything that comes out of Sen Coons mouth?”

Other reactions were more scathing, with one user commenting, “Chris would pick up a pile of Biden’s shit and hide it for him if that was needed. These sick fascist scum Democrats have no souls. It’s all about power.”

Another added, “lol keep pushing the obvious lies. It only results in more Trump votes." One more comment read, “And men dressed in women’s clothing are really girls. You can’t fix stupid,”

One posted a meme and wrote alongside, “BIDEN is a cadaver.” One user summed up the sentiment, “And you expect us to believe a biased Democrat over what we see and hear for ourselves? No…”

“He HAS to say that as the heir apparent to Biden’s seat," another user speculated.
