RHODE ISLAND, NEW YORK: Former Democratic congressman from Rhode Island, Patrick J Kennedy, publicly endorsed President Joe Biden over his cousin, Robert F Kennedy Jr, for the 2024 presidential race.

In a recent candid interview, Kennedy left no doubt about where his allegiance lies in the upcoming electoral contest that has bitterly divided the well-known political dynasty, as reported by The Daily Beast.

Patrick J Kennedy makes straightforward endorsement of Joe Biden

During an appearance on CNN’s 'State of the Union,' Kennedy, known for his advocacy in mental health and addiction issues, praised Biden as "the best president we’ve ever had on mental health."

"He’s also put the most money to community mental health around the country. So there is no other choice than Joe Biden. If you care about this addiction crisis and this mental health crisis, Joe Biden is your candidate," Kennedy stated emphatically.

When CNN’s Dana Bash pressed him to clarify if his statement was an official endorsement of Biden, Kennedy did not hesitate.

"Of course it is. He’s the best, and he knows this issue. It’s personally affected him, and I think that every American can relate to what it’s like for Joe Biden because we’ve all had similar circumstances," he emphasized.

Kennedy's endorsement came on the heels of a growing wave of support for Biden from within the Kennedy family.

In April, several members of the political family, including Rore Kennedy, Joe Kennedy III, Ted Kennedy Jr, and Christopher Kennedy, publicly declared their intention to back the incumbent president over their own relative.

At a Biden rally in Philadelphia, Kerry Kennedy voiced the family's collective stance: "We want to make crystal clear our feeling that the best way forward for America is to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to four more years."

She further criticized her brother's campaign as a "dangerous bid," emphasizing that their family’s choice was clear in supporting Biden for the upcoming election. The Kennedy family had previously expressed concerns over the 70-year-old independent candidate’s promotion of conspiracy theories and misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines.

Patrick J Kennedy's endorsement of Joe Biden garners support online

The internet quickly responded to Kennedy's endorsement of Biden, with many users voicing their approval. One user on Facebook expressed, "In our current political system, voting for a third party candidate is a game played by idiots."

Another commented, "Of course he does. RFK Jr is a Right Wing loon masquerading as an Independent." A user added, "RFK Jr., like Trump, has swum for decades in the cesspool of conspiracies, lies, baseless accusations, and ginned-up outrage." The sentiment was echoed by another who stated, "He speaks for the majority."

The online support continued with one user writing, "Of course. RFK Jr is almost as crazy as Trump," while another remarked, "RFK Jr is the Fredo of the Kennedy family." Others took a more humorous approach, with one user noting, "Everybody has a nut in the family," and another saying, "Country is thicker than blood."
