Stevie Nicks reveals advice she gave to Katy Perry on dealing with pop star rivalries
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Legendary singer Stevie Nicks has remained unfazed by the fierce fan rivalries that often spark among today’s pop stars. A decade ago, she shared some candid advice with Katy Perry on how to navigate pop star rivalries.
In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, the Fleetwood Mac singer expressed her disdain for artificial rivalries and social media feuds.
Stevie Nicks reflects on her advice to Katy Perry
"I hate it," Stevie Nicks said, recalling a revealing conversation with pop icon Katy Perry from a decade ago.
"About 10 years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were. I said, 'Well, I wouldn't know because I'm not on the internet,'" she recalled.
Nicks remembered how Perry struggled to envision a world without rivals.
“She asked, ‘So, who are your rivals?’” Nicks reflected, emphasizing her signature no-nonsense attitude in response. “I just looked at her. It was my steely look. I said, ‘Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either.’”
Stevie Nicks praises Taylor Swift’s 'resilience and brilliance'
Katy Perry's fiercely loyal fanbase, known as the "Katycats," frequently engages in online rivalries with fans of other artists, including Taylor Swift's "Swifties" and Lady Gaga's "Little Monsters."
While Perry seldom comments on the drama, the online rivalries persist, with fans rallying behind their favorite stars.

“Do you see my little bracelet? I haven’t taken it off for almost a year. She is really smart, but she also went through a lot before. She’s in a good place right now, and I think she has a good man. I hope they fall… pic.twitter.com/4qB0NObS4d
In addition to her comments on fandom, Nicks praised pop powerhouse Taylor Swift, expressing admiration for her resilience and brilliance.
She pointed out a friendship bracelet she received from a Swiftie, saying, “Do you see my little bracelet? I haven’t taken it off for almost a year.”

- Taylor reminds me of myself in her determination and her childlike nature. It’s an innocence that’s so special and so rare. The girl writes songs that make the whole world sing.

Nicks spoke warmly of Swift’s personal growth, adding, “She is really smart, but she also went through a lot before. She’s in a good place right now, and I think she has a good man. I hope they fall deeper and deeper in love and ride off into the sunset."
"He does his thing and she does her thing, and then they come back together and get married and have babies if she wants that. I just want all of that for her,” she stated.
Stevie Nicks applauds Chappell Roan’s talent
Stevie Nicks also shared her support for rising artist Chappell Roan, who has experienced a rapid rise to fame.
“Evidently she likes my music a lot,” Nicks noted, touched by the young artist’s appreciation, according to Entertainment Weekly.
However, after looking over Roan’s packed performance schedule, Nicks voiced her concern.
“What she's already done and then what she's going into. It’s as bad as any schedule we ever did, and she’s new, and she’s young,” she remarked.
Understanding the toll that constant touring can take, Nicks warned against burnout, saying, “I said, 'They’ll burn her out if that’s what they want to do because there’s always somebody to replace you.' It must make them all very fearful.”
Nicks was impressed by Roan’s strong boundaries, noting, “That’s why it’s good that Chappell just said, ‘Well, go ahead, replace me. I’m canceling because I’m not going to drop dead for all you people.’”
