NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Kim Godwin, the groundbreaking president of ABC News, resigned on Sunday, May 5. Her departure, amidst increasing criticism of her leadership and reported clashes with corporate higher-ups, sparked a delighted reaction from former President Donald Trump.

Using his Truth Social platform, Trump launched a sharp critique against Godwin, expressing satisfaction with her departure and alleging biased coverage against him during her tenure, as per The Hill.

Shortly after Godwin's resignation was announced, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to celebrate her exit.

"Happy to report that Kim Godwin, Head of ABC, has resigned. Could it be the unfair reporting on EVERYTHING TRUMP? In any event, GOOD RIDDANCE! Hopefully somebody else will be able to control George Slopadopolous and the rest of the Fake News Thugs over at ABC? Best wishes Kim!" Trump posted on his personal Truth Social account. [sic]

Godwin, who had served as the president of ABC News for the past three years, announced her resignation in a heartfelt note to staff.

"I'm certain it's the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what's most important for me and my family," she wrote, hinting at personal reasons behind her decision to step down.

Godwin's move followed the appointment of Debra O'Connell, a Disney executive, to oversee the news division months earlier, according to CNN.

As the first Black woman to lead a network news division, Godwin acknowledged the significance of her role, writing, "It's both a privilege and a debt to those who chipped away at the ceiling before me to lead a team whose brand is synonymous with trust, integrity and a dogged determination to be the best in the business."

Reports suggested that Godwin faced increasing scrutiny and a loss of power from corporate higher-ups. However, she maintained her dignity in her departure, stating, "I leave with my head held high and wish the entire team continued success."

In the past, Trump often ridiculed mainstream media outlets such as ABC, accusing them of biased portrayal.

Additionally, ABC News, under the ownership of Disney, faced accusations from Trump and prominent conservatives of promoting "woke" ideology and showing hostility towards conservative beliefs and political agendas.
