NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a well-known critic of Donald Trump, encountered criticism from the co-hosts of 'The View' following his announcement that he would not cast his vote for either former president Trump or President Joe Biden.

Following Trump's selection of JD Vance as his vice presidential candidate and his RNC acceptance speech on Thursday night, July 18, Christie contended on Friday, July 19, that the former Republican president missed an opportunity to unify the party, suggesting that a figure like Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin would have been a more unifying choice for vice president.

Chris Christie expresses disapproval over Joe Biden as Democratic presidential nominee

Chris Christie ran against Donald Trump in the GOP primary. He suspended his bid in January but remained the only challenger to Trump who has remained critical of the former president’s campaign.

“I know you’re not voting for Trump, would you vote for a Democratic ticket?” 'The View' co-host Ana Navarro asked Chris Christie.

“Right now, I’m not voting for either. I’m just not. I can’t. One guy is completely mentally incompetent to do the job —” Chris Christie responded, prompting an outburst from the co-hosts.

“But you have to vote!” co-host Joy Behar argued.

“No, I’m gonna vote down ticket. I don’t have to vote [for president], no!” Christie said, refusing to back down as he heard a co-host respond, "Yes, you do."

“You cannot throw away your vote! I asked you the last time you were on, Chris, and you’re gonna sit this one out?” co-host Sunny Hostin interjected, speaking over him.

Navarro pressed Christie, pointing out the irony in his advice to Democrats to abandon their current presidential nominee while he himself intended to vote for neither candidate.

The former governor has stated that he will hold his position as long as Biden is the Democratic nominee, but he may reconsider if a more favorable leading candidate emerges.

“I’m willing to consider anybody who presents themself as someone who will make the country better. Now, I’m not encouraged by Kamala Harris’ performance thus far,” he said.

Sunny Hostin argues that criticism is primarily due to Kamala Harris' racial or gender background

When questioned by Sunny Hostin regarding his lack of support for Kamala Harris, Chris Christie responded, “’Why not?’ We only have like a minute-thirty. I don’t have enough time.”

Over the years, Hostin has been one of Harris' most ardent supporters, contending that criticism is directed toward her due to her racial background or her gender, and that her frequently mocked word salads are a result of her legal background rather than mistakes.

Christie's prediction that the Biden-Harris ticket would lose in November prompted Behar to inquire if he would be open to supporting a ticket that included the more centrist Pennsylvania governor as the vice presidential candidate: Harris-Josh Shapiro.

“Don’t know. Let me see what they have to say,” he said.

When faced with objections from 'The View' co-hosts, he stated, “I’m sorry that I care for what people stand for. I apologize. I’m not gonna pre-commit to it! Let them perform and earn my vote! People should have their vote earned!”

Christie joked, "Voting for you, Joy," in response to Behar's argument that he would undoubtedly be supporting Biden by the time they saw him again.

"I’ll write you in!” said Christie.

Internet reacts to Chris Christie not voting for either Donald Trump or Joe Biden

Social media users criticized Chris Christie for saying he would vote for neither Donald Trump nor Joe Biden.

A user wrote, "@ChrisChristie Selling his soul"

Another user added, "You owe your vote to no one."

One of the commentators remarked, "Christie is just another hypocrite with no balls!"

"Still holding a grudge for not being named Attorney General in 2016," a reader conmmented on New York Post's platform.

One mocked, "Chris Christie isn't endorsing either Trump or Biden because he's waiting for 2028 so he can run for President"

"Christie is a backstabber and the women on the view are deranged," a person stated.

On the other hand, one user said, "Any vote for Biden is throwing away a vote that could go towards someone who's capable of handling that office. Because Biden sure isn't!" an X user stated.

Another stated, "I'll be throwing away my vote unless the Democrats nominate a moderate."

"He can do what he wants with HIS vote. How is this show still on the air?" someone questioned.
