NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On a recent episode of 'The View' aired Monday, December 8, the co‑hosts strongly criticized President Trump over his receipt of what they called a “fake” award.

The hosts launched a sharp on‑air takedown of the FIFA Peace Prize, labeling it “cringe” and questioning its legitimacy. Their reactions ranged from sarcastic jabs to pointed critiques of hypocrisy and self‑aggrandizement.

Donald Trump's ‘fake award’ and legacy posturing

The panel rejected Trump’s FIFA Peace Prize as a “made‑up award."

Sunny Hostin, former prosecutor and co-host, argued that the award seemed like "a pay-for-play situation for me, and I think we need to look at that." Her remarks referenced past corruption scandals and racketeering and bribery allegations involving FIFA and World Cup host cities.

Hostin further said, "If people can just buy this president by giving him a fake award, what else is happening that we don't know about?" She also mentioned of former President Barack Obama, noting, "I think we all know that Obama lives rent-free in Trump's head, and he has for a really long time, and he still wants the Nobel Peace Prize."

Ana Navarro, a Republican panelist, offered a theatrical but biting rebuttal. She stood and handed out fake medals to her co-hosts live on air, using the gesture to mock the idea that Trump’s award was genuine.

She added, "At a time when he is banning people from different countries from being able to get into the United States, FIFA needs people from all over the world who come and see the World Cup games, to be able to get US visas."

Navarro also said, "FIFA needs Trump not to send ICE to conduct raids and intimidate people who go to these games like he's threatening to do with the Super Bowl because they have Bad Bunny singing in the halftime show."

Alyssa Farah Griffin on Donald Trump voters

Other co-hosts also offered sharp commentary. Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former White House staffer, described the award as feeling “so cringe.”

She added that Trump is "focused on his legacy" to ensure the "history books can't dismiss him as a fluke," pointing to promises from his 2024 presidential campaign that she said went unfulfilled.

Griffin continued, "He wants his own monument in Washington, DC. He's putting his name on different things throughout the capital, and I think he's had a heavy focus on the world stage."

She argued that his emphasis on global recognition distracts from domestic priorities.

Griffin suggested many of Trump’s supporters say, "People who count themselves as America-first voters, it seems like he's more distracted by what's happening around the world and not delivering back home, and that's what will mark his legacy."
