LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Businesswoman and fashion designer Tina Knowles became emotional while recalling the moment she watched her daughter Beyonce and granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter appear together at the 2026 Met Gala.
During an appearance on the 'Today' show, Knowles said the moment felt like “deja vu,” as she reflected on seeing Blue Ivy step into the spotlight at the same age Beyonce once did on the red carpet.

Knowles revealed that watching Blue Ivy attend the Met Gala at 14 reminded her of Beyonce’s first red carpet appearance at 15. She said the similarity between mother and daughter made the experience deeply emotional.
She admitted she “got really emotional” and “shed a few tears” watching Blue Ivy confidently walk into one of fashion’s biggest nights. The moment also carried personal significance for Knowles, who previously helped shape Beyonce’s early image through her work styling Destiny’s Child via House of Dereon.
Reflecting on the experience, Knowles said, “Seeing her out there looking confident and beautiful brought tears to my eyes,” adding that the entire scene felt like “deja vu.”
Blue Ivy attended the event alongside Beyonce and Jay-Z, despite the gala’s usual age restriction for guests under 18. Reports suggested Beyonce’s role as co-chair may have influenced her daughter’s inclusion.
Blue Ivy wore a cream and white Balenciaga gown paired with gold heels and diamond accessories. Beyonce opted for a crystal-covered Olivier Rousteing creation, while Jay-Z wore a Louis Vuitton suit.
Tina Knowles reflects on motherhood and pride in Beyonce and Solange
The emotional Met Gala moment came after Knowles previously opened up about motherhood during Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year event in 2024. She became emotional while speaking about Beyonce and Solange, calling them the greatest source of joy in her life.
Knowles said her daughters supported her through difficult moments and celebrated her successes alongside her. She also said her proudest achievement was not their fame, but the kind of people they became.
She recalled teaching Beyonce humility early in life, emphasizing respect, kindness, and staying grounded despite fame.
In recent interviews, Knowles has continued reflecting on family and personal growth, including discussing therapy sessions with her daughters during childhood to strengthen their bond.
She has also spoken publicly about her breast cancer diagnosis, urging women to prioritize regular health screenings and self-care.
