Lizzo claimed to be in a ‘deep dark depression’

The singer began the clip by saying, “I just want to take a second and give a personal thank you to all of the activists who have been working tirelessly to help the liberation and the freedom of the people who have been genocided (sic) all over the world.”

She continued, “On a personal note, you have activated me. I was in a deep dark depression. I had some mental health crises and episodes over the last nine months," Daily Mail reported.

“And I was not present. Between the loss I experienced in my personal life and the state of the world, I have been rendered into an emotional state where I cannot process or handle anything. It was very dark,” she added.

Lizzo finds activism ‘extremely motivating’

The rapper, however, clarified that she was “not saying this to make excuses, nor do I want sympathy. I just haven't been able to be transparent with y'all in a long time. And this has been weighing on my heart to share with y'all.”

Lizzo also thanked “people in my life” before mentioning, “But also the activism that I've been seeing has been extremely motivating. Your work is not in vain. You have helped so many people. You have saved literal lives,” she added.

The ‘Pink’ singer then appeared to refer to the anti-Israel protests currently happening in the US as she added, “I also want to take this moment and thank all of the anti-genocide, anti-war protests that have been happening at college campuses.”

Lizzo called ‘sad individual’

But Lizzo’s words seemed to backfire on her as a reader commenting below the Daily Mail article wrote, “I am so disappointed at Lizzo jumping on this privileged class cause celebre bandwagon. It won't make people forget those horrific allegations made against her.”

The person was referring to the sexual harassment allegations against the Grammy winner. In 2023, she was also accused of creating a hostile work environment.

One reader said, “Lizzo trying to make herself relevant again. Please just go live life outside the entertainment world. You clearly don’t belong there. Sad individual.”

“She brought this all upon herself. Tone-deaf and zero self-awareness,” another remarked.

One Instagram user commented, “Please if you don’t know what you are saying just don’t post your opinion because this is some bull***t.”

“Shut up Lizzo… stick entertainment. Before you open your mouth, read a history book,” another added.
