NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On March 25, 'The View' co-hosts strongly criticized NBC News for what they deemed a "despicable" decision to hire former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, whom they labeled a "shapeshifter".

McDaniel's recent hiring by NBC News, announced on March 22, prompted her first interview as a contributor with NBC's Kristen Welker on 'Meet the Press'.

Ana Navarro criticizes Ronna McDaniel's hiring, calls her a 'shapeshifter'

Co-host Ana Navarro was among the voices expressing disdain for McDaniel's new contract.

"I think she's a shapeshifter, and she says and does what's convenient for her to say and do when it's convenient. She's from Michigan, where the Romney, which is her name, she used to use," Navarro said.

She continued, "When she was in Michigan she was a Romney, when she became the RNC chair, and it was under Trump, who did not like Romney, she took out the word, the name Romney".

Navarro commended NBC News' Chuck Todd for his bold criticism of his own network following Welker's interview.

Todd's viral remarks, where he stated that NBC News owed Welker an apology and criticized the decision to bring on McDaniel, garnered widespread attention and support.

Navarro expressed her belief that hiring McDaniel was a mistake due to credibility issues.

'The View' co-hosts discuss the importance of holding contributors accountable

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that NBC News could have chosen better Republicans as contributors, ones who hadn't engaged in denying President Joe Biden's victory in 2020.

On the other hand, co-host Sara Haines argued against giving roles to election deniers in major news networks, emphasizing that while questioning elections is acceptable, outright denial in the face of evidence is not.

Accusing McDaniel of actively suppressing the Black vote in Detroit, Michigan, co-host Sunny Hostin criticized her interview with Welker.

"I think there could have been more pushback," Hostin said, continuing, "She is still pushing the same exact narrative, she is being rewarded basically for trying to take away the votes of Americans and I think it's a despicable decision".
