NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Angelina Jolie has always been a trailblazer, not just in her career but also in parenting skills.

In a recent interview with W Magazine for their Best Performances issue, the 49-year-old Academy Award-winning actress shared her perspective on risk, passion, and the remarkable achievements of her eldest son, Maddox, 23, who is now a trained pilot.

Angelina Jolie praises son Maddox's passion for aviation

When asked if she feels "nervous" about Maddox flying a plane, Angelina Jolie’s response was rather surprising: "No", Daily Mail reported.

She elaborated, "Maybe I just have a big family. I worry more that people aren't finding themselves and something they love. I think that's more dangerous — to walk so tentatively through life that you don't take a risk. You don't wake up with passion. I think that's scarier."

Jolie, who has a pilot's license herself, added, "I'd rather they be out there trying and failing than not pushing and being passionate."

Her perspective underscores her belief in embracing life boldly, a value she seems to have instilled in all six of her children.

Jolie’s passion for aviation was sparked by her son.

"Every time Mad sees a plane, he's amazed," she told People magazine in 2018.

In 2004, driven by her desire to inspire Maddox, she earned her pilot’s license, joking that flying a plane would make her feel like "Superman" in her son’s eyes.

She later purchased a Cirrus SR22-G2, a single-engine plane, even customizing the tail number with the initials "MX" as a tribute to Maddox.

Now, Maddox has followed in her footsteps, becoming a skilled pilot himself.

Jolie recalled her reaction when she learned Maddox could fly solo: "They called me the other day and said, 'So Mad can go solo,' and I nearly dropped the phone!"

Angelina Jolie opens up about her pet peeve

In her W Magazine interview, Angelina Jolie also opened up about her strong disdain for dishonesty.

"My pet peeve is somebody who is a liar," she admitted. "Somebody who feels a need to not say the truth or what they want, what they feel."

She added, "There’s a big version of that — and I’m not trying to be heavy about it — but people who say one thing and mean another, who aren’t completely who they are. I think a lot of people don’t say what they mean."

This candid insight reflects the values Jolie has passed on to her children: honesty, authenticity, and courage in pursuing their passions.

The interview also comes at a time of significant personal transition for Jolie.

Last week, she and ex-husband Brad Pitt finally reached a divorce settlement, concluding an eight-year legal battle.

Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, stated, "More than eight years ago, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family."

Though the split was challenging, a source close to Jolie noted, "She doesn’t speak ill of [Pitt] publicly or privately. She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time."

In addition to Maddox, Jolie is the proud mother of Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
