LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: For fans of the slick, fast-talking lawyers of 'Suits', it's time to dust off your finest legal briefs and get ready to suit up again. NBCUniversal has ordered a pilot for 'Suits: LA', a new spin-off series that aims to deliver more of the sharp writing and high-stakes lawyering that made the original cable drama a hit.

On the heels of the original show's resurgent success thanks to online streaming services, the creators are capitalizing on its renewed popularity by exploring a new chapter.

With production on the pilot slated to kick off next month in Vancouver, the potential new series promises more drama surrounding characters navigating the treacherous intersections of the personal and professional, as reported by The Standard.

The original 'Suits' aired for nine seasons

The original 'Suits' aired on USA Network from 2011 to 2019 and followed young lawyer Michael Ross, played by Patrick J Adams, who secures a job at a top legal firm despite not having a law degree.

His boss was hotshot lawyer Harvey Specter, played by Gabriel Macht, and his love interest was paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane, played by Meghan Markle.

Although the original series ended in 2019 after nine seasons, its popularity has skyrocketed since through streaming on Netflix and Dave in the UK. Many new fans have found the show thanks to Markle's high-profile relationship with Prince Harry. Last year, 'Suits' broke streaming records on Netflix and became the platform's most-watched series.

'Suits: LA' will follow a new character named Ted Black

The new spin-off series, titled 'Suits: LA', will follow an entirely new character named Ted Black, a former prosecutor from New York looking to reinvent himself by representing LA's elite.

According to the logline, Ted is "surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives." The show will also unravel past events that led Ted to leave New York behind.

While none of the original 'Suits' characters are expected to appear in the spin-off, the show will maintain the sharp writing and compelling legal drama that defined its predecessor. 'Suits' creator Aaron Korsh is involved with the new series as an executive producer.
