PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: In an exclusive interview on 'The Faulkner Focus', former President Donald Trump explained his position on abortion, stating that he disagrees with Project 2025's proposals on the issue.

The 78-year-old MAGA figurehead participated in a sit-down interview that was recorded ahead of Saturday, July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his right ear in a failed assassination attempt.

"I have no idea what it is. It's a group of extremely conservative people, [they] got together and wrote up a wish list of things, many of which I disagree with entirely," said Trump on Project 2025, as per Fox News

The 2024 Republican presidential nominee added, "They're too severe. Like on abortion. … From what I've heard, it's not too far, it's way too far."

However, he did celebrate the overturning of Roe v Wade, saying, "I did a great job by getting rid of Roe v Wade, I was able to get it back into the states. And now I've given it back to the people."

Donald Trump claims he has nothing to do with the creators of Project 2025

Depicted as a blueprint for a potential future Republican administration to reorganize and restructure various aspects of the American government, Project 2025, also referred to as the Presidential Transition Project, was initiated in April 2023 and is not linked to Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.

Project 2025 also suggests prohibiting the shipment of abortion pills across state borders, according to Reuters

Trump campaign spokesperson Danielle Alvarez told Fox News Digital, "Agenda 47 and President Trump’s RNC Platform are the only policies endorsed by President Trump for a second term."

She added, "Team Biden and the DNC are LYING and fear-mongering because they have NOTHING else to offer the American people. Remember this is the same group that lied to Americans and hid Joe Biden’s cognitive decline all these years."

Following President Joe Biden's lackluster debate performance, Democrats have consistently criticized former President Trump's alleged involvement with the far-right project, accusing it of seeking to implement significant changes to government staffing, abortion regulations, taxes, drug prices, and other issues, despite his denial.

Since the June 27 presidential debate, the Biden campaign's official X (formerly Twitter) account has posted about Project 2025 more than 100 times, sharing videos of Democrats and media figures criticizing it.

Trump distanced himself from the conservative initiative through a Truth Social post, stating that he was unaware of the individuals behind the effort, which provides suggestions on how a future Republican president can start enacting conservative reforms upon taking office.

He wrote, "I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them."

Internet mocks Donald Trump for saying Project 2025 'goes way too far' with abortion restrictions

Netizens accused Donald Trump of backtracking on his supposed involvement with Project 2025 and its policy proposals on nationwide abortion restrictions.

One remarked, "Nice try but too late dude," and another said, "Of course...Trump is lying....give him power and we get a National abortion ban like in Project 2025."

"Right, that’s why he picked Vance. What a bunch of bs," noted someone else, taking a dig at the Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance

"You hear that 'beep, beep, beep' from the backtracking??" wrote a person, while another one added, "He's trying to back-peddle and it's so obvious. He claims there are post-birth abortions(?) and end of trimester abortions like they happen out of convenience rather than for medical reasons. He only says things like that to get rid of a women's right to chose completely."
