Dua Lipa responds to 2025 Grammys snub with ‘Radical Optimism’: ‘It would have been nice’
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Dua Lipa has opened up about her latest album, 'Radical Optimism', missing out on nominations at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards despite the album’s chart-topping success.
The 'Dance The Night' singer accomplished a lot this year and remains proud of the work she has created.
Dua Lipa reflects on 'Future Nostalgia' success and how it shaped 'Radical Optimism'
In a recent interview with Billboard UK, Dua Lipa reflected on her journey since her 2020 album 'Future Nostalgia', which earned her the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2021.
She credited the success of that record for inspiring her confidence in creating 'Radical Optimism', released on May 3, 2024, NME reported.
“'Future Nostalgia' allowed me to grow as an artist, to push boundaries and change,” Lipa shared. “It helped me have the confidence to make 'Radical Optimism'.”
The album, which peaked at No. 1 on the UK Charts and No. 2 on the US Billboard 200, was widely expected to feature in the Grammy nominations.
However, when the Recording Academy unveiled the nominees, 'Radical Optimism' was notably absent. The 67th Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Speaking on the snub, Lipa remained gracious and focused on her achievements:
“I’m so proud of 'Radical Optimism' and where it’s brought me. I love that album, and I’m having the time of my life performing it live. I’ve been able to do things that I thought I could only dream of this year, so I’m really grateful,” she said.
“Although it would have been nice to be recognized by your industry, especially as a woman, I’m so proud seeing so many incredible female artists nominated at the Grammys this year.”
Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, and Charli XCX are also competing in the categories of Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.

Female artists dominate 2025 Grammy nominations
Female artists continue to dominate the 2025 Grammy nominations.
Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, and Charli XCX earned major nominations. Beyonce leads the pack at 11 nods while Taylor Swift has earned six nominations.
Women claimed six of the eight spots for both Album of the Year and Record of the Year, highlighting their undeniable influence on the industry.
Despite its commercial success, Lipa's 'Radical Optimism' received mixed critical reviews.
NME gave the album three stars, writing, “Radical Optimism offers little to latch on… The album’s beachy vibes feel suited to a festival field’s carefree disposition. You just wish there was a little more to these songs.”
While critics' response may have been lukewarm, Lipa’s fans embraced the record wholeheartedly, and her electrifying live performances have cemented 'Radical Optimism' as a crowd-pleaser.
Later this summer, Lipa will headline Glastonbury for the first time and top the bill at numerous European festivals—proof that her “beachy vibes” are made for the stage.
Beyond the Grammy buzz, Lipa recently brought holiday spirit to screens worldwide as part of the series 'A Carpool Karaoke Christmas'.
Joining Chappell Roan and Lady Gaga, the trio surprised fans in an hour-long festive special, which aired on December 15 via Apple TV.
