Fact Check: Does Barron Trump really speak three or more languages?

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A viral video of a young Barron Trump has fans fawning over his Slovenian accent.

The resurfaced clip has sparked speculation on social media, with claims that President Donald Trump's youngest son is a polyglot prodigy who has “mastered” multiple languages.

The Barron Trump video that started it all

The short clip featued a much younger Barron Trump speaking with what sounded like a Slovenian accent, a nod to his mother Melania Trump’s native language.

The tiny detail was all it took for the fans to come up with theories about Barron’s linguistic abilities. Various news outlets jumped on the story, but they couldn’t agree on how many languages he supposedly speaks, according to Snopes.

Some sources claimed he spoke three languages. Others upped the number to five. And one particularly enthusiastic X (formerly Twitter) post that racked up over 2.3 million views and 90,000 likes declared that Barron had “mastered” Slovenian, French, Italian, and German in addition to English.

Fans on social media ate up the claims without thinking twice.

"Wow, Barron sounds like a future AI trainer! With skills like that, he could probably teach PublicAI a thing or two about mastering languages and chess!" one responded.

"Being brought up as a polyglot does wonders for a person's IQ. Being taught 4 foreign languages, I'm not surprised Barron is rated so high. The earlier it starts, the greater the benefit. I expect his math skills are also impressive," someone else chimed in.

"Such an active yung man, and extremely talented!" another gushed.

Fact Check: Unfounded

While MAGA was quick to crown Barron as the next linguistic genius, Snopes stepped in to investigate. The results were murky at best.

Here’s what we actually know. Melania Trump herself has confirmed that Barron is at least bilingual. In 2010, she told Larry King that Barron spoke three languages - but never specified which ones.

In 2016, she confirmed to People that Barron was raised bilingual — frequently speaking Slovenian with his grandmother.

"My opinion is that more languages you speak, better it is, but but when you come to America, you speak English," she told the magazine. Meanwhile, a 2020 biography claimed Barron speaks Slovenian at home, but this was never officially verified.

That said, it's worth noting that there is no public footage of Barron speaking any language other than English.

Trump reportedly 'annoyed' by secret conversations in Slovenian

If Barron is fluent in multiple languages, it seems like one person in the Trump household was less than thrilled about it—his father.

According to journalist Mary Jordan, who wrote the 2020 unauthorized biography 'The Art of Her Deal', Melania, her parents, and Barron all spoke Slovenian at home.

In an interview with CBS, Jordan shared, "So, Barron Trump speaks Slovenian, is very close to the father. Both her parents spend a huge amount of time in the White House, living there. There's a unit within the family unit, and it's Melania, her mother, her father, and Barron. And they all speak Slovenian. And it's kind of interesting: the Secret Service has no idea what they're saying."

CBS journalist Tracy Smith then asked: "And Donald Trump doesn't have a good idea of what they're saying a lot of the time when they're speaking Slovenian?"

Jordan confirmed: "No. And he has said it annoys him sometimes, 'cause he has no idea what they're saying."
