SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: California Gov Gavin Newsom joked about the process that led to Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election during his appearance on the Friday, August 23 episode of the podcast, 'Pod Save America'.

Harris joined the presidential race against GOP nominee Donald Trump when Joe Biden suspended his reelection campaign in July and endorsed her as his successor, which lexd to an outcry among political rivals that she was being pushed for the top spot without the will of the voters.

However, since joining the race, Harris has enjoyed a surge in polling numbers and fundraising. She was officially appointed as the Democratic presidential nominee in a glitzy musical roll call on Tuesday, August 20, the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Gavin Newsom shares his take on Kamala Harris replacing Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket

Gavin Newsom found the process and the controversy surrounding the appointment of Kamala Harris as his party nominee humorous, as per Fox News.

When asked about how he felt about the "switch" between Harris and Biden for the top spot in the Democratic ticket, he laughed while saying, "We went through a very open process, a very inclusive process. It was bottom-up, I don’t know if you know that. That’s what I’ve been told to say."

One of the podcast co-hosts noted that it was a "blitz primary," leading Newsom to joke that the Democrats held a 30-minute convention between the tweets that Biden shared to announce leaving the race and endorsing Harris.

"It's been amazing," quipped the California governor, before adding on a serious note, "But what is amazing is how unified everybody is. I mean, it's next level."

One wrote, "This is amazing. They are actually joking about it," and another said, "I don’t even have words for how disgusted I am."

"Isn’t it amazing? 24/7 about 'muh democracy' and then instant oligarchy," remarked a person. Someone else stated, "This same snide and disingenuous laughter will be the soundtrack to the new tyrannical America. They will giggle like narcissistic school children as they drag you away to the gulag."

"Newsome acknowledging the process with neither open to voters nor inclusive of voters, and laughing by about it. These people who claim to be 'saving our democracy' are sick," declared one more.

An individual noted, "They don't even feel the need to deny it anymore. Or Newsom is angry that they didn't pick him, so it's payback time." Another person dubbed the Democratic Party as "the party of lying and hypocrisy."
