Joey King who played Gypsy Rose Blanchard in 'The Act' says she's 'happy' to see her released from prison
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Joey King, who portrayed Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu’s 'The Act', expressed her happiness for the 32-year-old’s release from prison.
The actress was caught by paparazzi and asked about her thoughts on Gypsy’s freedom.
Has Joey King met Gypsy Rose Blanchard?
Joey King said, “I’m so happy that she’s released,” although according to the reports, she avoided questions about whether she has been in touch with Gypsy or intends to do so.
“I’m so happy for her,” the 24-year-old star added. King said Gypsy Rose Blanchard “deserves freedom," Entertainment Tonight reported.
The shocking true crime story where Gypsy Rose killed her mother along with help from boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn was documented in a 2017 HBO documentary 'Mommy Dead and Dearest.'
In 2019, it was dramatized in the mini-series 'The Act' in which Joey played Gypsy alongside Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee.
Arquette won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for her supporting role while Joey was nominated for the lead actress category at both 2020 events.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard shares her story in a new docuseries
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gypsy revealed that she has not seen 'The Act' and does not plan to watch it.
“I lived it,” she said, adding “For me, looking for things that weren’t correct or that were inaccurate, that’s neither here nor there.”
Gypsy is now telling her story in the Lifetime docuseries 'The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard' which debuted on January 5.
“I’m not trying to Hollywood it up,” she said of the project, adding “I’m just trying to share my story in the truest of lights.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s life in prison
The six-part docs show Gypsy’s prison interviews about her mother’s murder and her life after release.
She said, “My purpose for doing this documentary is really just to shed light on mental health awareness.”
She wanted to share her story because she wants to help people out there who are suffering as, according to her, she felt alone and abused by her mother.
Gypsy Rose wished she had someone to tell her. “Hey, it’s safe to talk to someone and tell them that you’re struggling," she said.
"Tell them that your home situation is bad. Tell them you're being abused,' I wouldn't have committed my crime. So that's why it's important for me to share my story," she added.
