WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris' supporters broke the record for the largest Zoom meeting ever and raised over $1.5 million for her presidential campaign in under an hour on Thursday, July 25.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters have rallied behind the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, with Zoom calls achieving an astounding six-digit attendance number, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On Sunday, July 21, a series of events followed President Joe Biden’s shock announcement that he would not run for reelection come November.

The 81-year-old POTUS subsequently endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the party’s ticket and a call to rally support for the 59-year-old vice president's groundbreaking presidential campaign attracted over 44,000 Black women and garnered support from celebrities such as Yvette Nicole Brown and Jenifer Lewis, raising an estimated $1.5 million.

The enthusiasm among the Democratic party’s voter base persisted with thousands of Black men participating in a virtual meeting earlier this week. This was followed by separate Zoom meetings for white women, LGBTQ supporters, South Asian supporters, and others.

On Thursday night, the fundraising event on Zoom titled 'White Women: Answer the Call' urged women from all over the country to join the livestream chat and encourage their contacts to support VP Kamala Harris.

At one stage, organizer Shannon Watts mentioned that over 136,000 people had joined the Zoom call, according to RawStory. 

As the number of participants in the Zoom call increased, the platform started experiencing crashes and glitches, eventually freezing and displaying a black screen with the message, “We’ll be right back.” It later reloaded, showing the astonished expressions of the women in the virtual call.

“We weren’t kidding when we said we broke Zoom,” remarked attendee Erin Gallagher when the video chat came back online.

Later that night, Watts tweeted, “Kamala just broke Zoom again.”

“Tonight's Zoom to support Kamala Harris is now the first EVER IN HISTORY to have over 100,000 participants,” Watts added.

During the white women's call on Thursday night, more than 100,000 participants joined, leading to significant technical glitches that caused many to watch the live stream on YouTube, where an additional 25,000 joined.

Representatives from Hollywood were present across the interest groups. ‘The Office’ star Mindy Kaling participated in the South Asian call and George Takei, Zachary Quinto, Raven Simone, Sophia Bush, Ashlyn Harris, Brian Michael Smith, and Justin Tranter attended the LGBTQ call.

Justin Tranter, the co-writer of Chappel Roan’s 'Good Luck Babe,' announced a $20,000 donation for the Harris for President campaign.

Katie McGrath, Connie Britton, Pink, and others joined the white women’s call, with Pink reportedly joining right after leaving the stage of a performance in Sweden.
