LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lorne Michaels and Taylor Swift had an unexpected showdown over a 2015 'Saturday Night Live' spoof of her 'Bad Blood' music video.

When Swift asked Michaels to cut the sketch poking fun at her famous "girl squad," the iconic 'SNL' creator refused to back down. The revelation of their 2015 conversation in a recent Vulture report has sparked a wave of online discussion about Swift's request and Michaels' firm denial.

Lorne Michaels refused Taylor Swift’s plea to cut ‘Bad Blood’ sketch on ‘SNL

A recent Vulture report revealed that Taylor Swift once asked Lorne Michaels to remove a 'Saturday Night Live' sketch that poked fun at her "girl squad," but the 'SNL' creator stood his ground and refused.

This exchange began when Michaels reached out to Swift's management team in 2015, inviting the pop star to make a surprise appearance on the show. The sketch he proposed was a parody of Swift’s 'Bad Blood' music video, reimagining it as an apocalyptic cult.

Swift took control and called Michaels directly, demanding he cancel the sketch and making it clear she wouldn't participate.

Despite considering her concerns, Michaels decided to move forward with the plan, allegedly telling Swift, "I do not negotiate with terrorists." After the sketch aired, Swift sent Michaels a bouquet, with a note that read, "I hope there’s no bad blood."

Since then, Swift has graced the 'SNL' stage as a musical guest in 2017, 2019, and 2021, and in 2023, she made a surprise cameo to introduce Ice Spice as the musical guest, as per PEOPLE.

The 'Bad Blood' video and its iconic girl squad moment quickly became a cultural phenomenon, inspiring several parodies, including two sketches on 'SNL' during its 41st season.

One of these sketches depicted a dystopian world ruled by Swift and her squad, with a narrator humorously suggesting that Swift “wanted to collect the whole world until there was no world left to collect.”

Months later, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted 'SNL' and recreated the music video, putting their twist on the girl squad with appearances from Amy Schumer, Aidy Bryant, Gayle King, and Robert Downey Sr.

Swift’s original 'Bad Blood' video, released in 2015, featured a star-studded cast of women from various fields, including models like Cindy Crawford, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Lily Aldridge; singers like Hailee Steinfeld, Ellie Goulding, and Hayley Williams; and actresses like Zendaya, Jessica Alba, Ellen Pompeo, and Mariska Hargitay. Swift's close friend Selena Gomez also made an appearance.
