Melania Trump admits Barron’s life is ‘different’ from other children as she opens up about his NYU days
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former first lady Melania Trump recently shared some rare details about her son Barron Trump’s college experience.
In an interview with Fox News — her first in two years — the wife of former president Donald Trump spoke candidly about their family life and revealed how Barron is adjusting to his new life as a college student at New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Barron — the only child of Donald and Melania — has always managed to stay somewhat out of the spotlight despite being part of such a high-profile family. But Melania decided to give a sneak peek into his college life.
Barron Trump's big move to NYU
Melania Trump is genuinely proud of Barron Trump’s choice to attend NYU.
She described how he’s settling in and enjoying his new environment. "He’s having a good time," she shared, noting that he’s made the decision to stay close to home.
According to Melania, Barron wanted to live in his own house while studying in New York City.
"I could not say I’m an empty nester," she explained. "I don’t feel that way. I raised Barron as his own person and gave him his own yes and nos."
She referred to him as an “incredible young man” and praised his “strength, intelligence, knowledge, and kindness".
Barron’s independence is something Melania respects wholeheartedly. "It was his decision to come here that he wants to be in New York and study in New York and live in his home, and I respect that," she said.
"I'm very proud of what he grew up to," Melania continued. "His strength. His intelligence. His knowledge, his kindness. It's admirable."
Barron has only just begun his journey at NYU after graduating from Oxbridge Academy, but Melania says he’s already enjoying the experience.
"He’s enjoying his college days," she said. "I hope he will have a great experience because his life is very different than any other 18, 19-year-old child."
Back in May, People reported how Melania continues to be very involved in her son’s future. “He is her world," a source told the outlet. "She is proud of him, and she is the primary decision maker on Barron and his future."
This summer, Barron was even chosen as an at-large delegate to represent Florida at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. However, he ultimately turned down the offer due to commitments.
Melania’s office confirmed this decision at the time, saying, "While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments."
Melania Trump's thoughts on family dynamics
Melania Trump didn’t just talk about Barron Trump’s college life—she also reflected on the internal dynamics of blended families. When she tied the knot with Donald Trump, he already had four children from his previous marriages.
Regardless, Melanina has always taken a hands-off approach when it comes to dealing with others in the family.
“To take the individual as they are. You cannot control anyone. You can control only your own behavior, your own words. Everybody's in control of their own self."
"I'm not in control of my husband. I'm not in control of his children. I'm not even in control of my child. He is his own person. And we all have yes and nos and we all are all individuals. Once you live your life with respect and love, that's all that matters,” she explained.
The former first lady is gearing up for the release of her memoir 'Melania' in October.
