Miley Cyrus wants no part in feud between Trace and dad Billy Ray as she’s ‘looking out for herself’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Amid the recent family drama involving Miley Cyrus' brother Trace and their father Billy Ray, the 'Flowers' singer has made it clear that she wants no part in the feud, focusing instead on her own wellbeing.
The tension began when Trace publicly voiced concerns about Billy Ray following his performance at President Donald Trump's inauguration festivities.
In contrast, another brother, Braison Cyrus, defended their father, claiming Billy Ray was happy and healthy. However, the situation escalated when Billy Ray reportedly threatened to sue Trace over his open letter.
What did Miley Cyrus say about the family feud?
A source told People that 32-year-old Miley Cyrus wants no part in her family conflict.
The insider revealed, "Miley used to feel overwhelmed by the family drama. She worked hard to remove herself. She's not about to get involved again."
Miley has made it clear that her decision to stay out of the family feud is rooted in her desire to focus on her own wellbeing. "She's in a great place now. She's thriving and looking out for herself," the source added.
Miley had previously been open about her complicated relationship with her father. In a June 2024 interview on 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction' with David Letterman, she discussed both the positive and negative lessons she's learned from her 63-year-old father, Billy Ray.
In a November 2024 cover story for Harper's Bazaar, Miley also reflected on her professional journey, mentioning her work with Billy Ray, saying, "I worked with my dad forever."
Meanwhile, Miley maintains a strong and healthy relationship with her mother, Tish Cyrus, and is happy to see her mother doing well.
"She has a great relationship with her mom," the source shared.
Billy Ray Cyrus ignites family feud after concerns over his performance at Donald Trump's inauguration
The recent Cyrus family feud ignited after Billy Ray performed at the Liberty Ball during Donald Trump’s inaugural celebration on January 20. During the performance, Billy Ray faced technical difficulties while singing 'Achy Breaky Heart' and his collaboration with Lil Nas X, 'Old Town Road'.
Following the performance, Trace, who was adopted by Billy Ray and his now-ex-wife Tish in 1993, wrote an emotional letter on Instagram on January 22.
In his message, Trace expressed concern for his father, saying, "It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point."

He also mentioned how he, along with his sisters Miley, Noah, and Brandi Cyrus, were all worried about him. Trace continued, "We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it."
He concluded, "I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me. Till that day comes I will continue to pray for you."
After Trace’s public post about his father, he revealed that Billy Ray threatened legal action instead of addressing the concerns he raised.
In an Instagram story, Trace shared, "I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don’t want to put your business out there like that. But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace. Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment, I can assure you."
