WASHINGTON, DC: Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley has tried out a new way to attack her sole primary opponent, Donald Trump. She trolled the former President with a fake Halloween costume that labeled him as the "Weakest General Election Candidate Ever," as reported by The Hill.

On Thursday, February 1, the former South Carolina governor took to X and posted a photoshopped Halloween costume package with the caption highlighting Trump's incompetence as a general election candidate.

"Democrats are ecstatic about the prospect of running against Donald Trump. They couldn't dream up a worse general election candidate if they tried. Between his legal drama, his terrible poll numbers, and his confusion, Trump will hand Democrats a big victory," Haley wrote.

Trump's legal battles have not ended positively for him, as he failed to win his defense in any of the cases. In addition to his criminal charges, the former President faced trials for multiple civil suits.

Recently, a Manhattan jury ordered him to pay $83.3 million to longtime advice columnist E Jean Carroll for defaming her in 2019, when he denied her sexual assault claims.

The GOP presidential primary candidates have stepped up their criticisms against each other since the race narrowed down into a Trump vs Haley showdown after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis exited the campaign on January 21.

After losing in the New Hampshire primary, Haley decided to stay in the race against the former President, who had established his position as the clear frontrunner.

Nikki Haley trails behind Trump in South Carolina

Despite Haley's claims about Trump's incompetence being a barrier for a possible second term, polls show a contradictory image.

After coming third in the Iowa caucus and second in the New Hampshire primary, the Indian-origin presidential contender was looking forward to her home state, South Carolina, where she served as Governor from 2011 to 2017.

However, the latest poll by Monmouth University-Washington Post suggests Haley is trailing behind Trump in her home state. 58% of potential Republican primary voters of South Carolina are currently supporting the former President, giving him a 26-point lead ahead of his opponent. The state will head for its primary on February 24.

Trump has intensified his criticism toward Haley and her campaign donors, recently warning them of a permanent ban from the MAGA camp.

In addition, the Republican National Committee's move to declare the frontrunner as the presumptive nominee also irked the former UN ambassador, who critiqued the move claiming the RNC was not an "honest broker" in the ongoing primary race.

Internet reacts to Nikki Haley's mockery of Trump

Haley may have dug her own grave by trolling Trump with a fake Halloween costume months after the holiday. Netizens mocked her for posting it on the wrong date, reminding her it was not October.

One user said, "Think they know or care it's not October? Even the Democrats they're begging for votes will think this is stupid."

Another user remarked, "These memes are so bad. Doesn’t even make sense. It’s February lmao."

"You're not wrong about Trump but you're about three months behind the expiration date of this meme there Nikki, swing and a miss," a third added.

While a user labeled it as the "weakest troll ever," another called it "lame."

"It's only funny around Halloween, but since she won't be on the ballot come Halloween, she has to use it now," one user wrote.

Another remark read, "It’s gonna be so awkward when Haley eventually endorses Trump."
