SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA: Congressman Dean Phillips who is currently running for the Democratic presidential nomination, announced on Friday, February 16, that his campaign will experience significant layoffs.

Despite these setbacks, Rep Phillips remains steadfast in his commitment to continue his campaign and vie for the presidency against the 81-year-old incumbent, President Joe Biden, according to a report from The Hill.

What did Dean Phillips say regarding layoff of staff members?

Phillips said in a TikTok posted Friday to his X account, formerly Twitter, “I found it almost impossible to raise enough to do this campaign the way I want. And today, sadly, I had to announce layoffs to a lot of my staff members… amazing people who gave up a lot personally and a lot professionally to join this remarkable campaign.”

“And it was a really tough day for all of us,” the Minnesota Democrat added. “But I made a promise to them and I’m gonna make it to you, I’m not giving up. I’m gonna continue.”

In Phillips’ post, he entreated his followers to make donations to his campaign, with the intention of continuing his candidacy.

Rep Phillips asserted that a majority of Americans hold the opinion that Joe Biden is 'too old' to be a viable presidential candidate and that Donald Trump, the current leading candidate, is 'too corrupt'.

The statement made by Phillips on the President is in response to negative media coverage surrounding Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report that probed Biden's mishandling of classified documents.

The Commander-in-Chief, although not charged, was characterized by Hur as an 'elderly man with a poor memory'.

Following the release of the report, Phillips defended Biden as a 'decent man', referring to it as a 'sad day' during an interview with Fox News.

However, Phillips did not refute concerns regarding Biden's age.

“I respect him, but that’s the problem. And by the way, Donald Trump? Not that far behind him,” Phillips argued Friday, citing the ages of both Biden and Trump, who are presently 81 and 77 years old respectively.

“Seventy-seven percent of the country wants to move on from this chapter,” the congressman remarked. “We have two presidents — a former president, the current president, that frankly, people have lost faith in.”

People on X (formerly Twitter) ridiculed the Minnesota congressman’s bid for the US presidency as several members of his camp were laid off on Friday.

One X user remarked, “He's ruined a chance of a real candidacy later because of this nonsense. Pathetic"

Another user quipped: "long-shot? More like no-shot! #DropOutDean"

Another user said: "It's unfortunate to hear about the layoffs within Rep Dean Phillips' campaign. Despite the challenges, his determination to continue his bid against President Biden is commendable. Let's hope for resilience and perseverance as he navigates his campaign forward."

One user wrote: "Yeah, put a fork in it; he's done."

Another X user remarked, "The democrats don't know a sane man when they see one."

Finally, this user tweeted: "Who? ..ah yeah.. #DropOutDean"
