NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Selena Gomez found a strong supporter in her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner after facing body-shaming remarks following her appearance at the 2025 SAG Awards.

The 'Twilight' star took to Instagram Stories on February 26 to slam those who compared photos of Gomez from the 2024 and 2025 awards ceremonies, with some claiming she had slimmed down over the past year.

Selena Gomez stunned at the awards show in a blue off-the-shoulder dress, but it didn’t take long for social media users to fixate on her figure.

Ozempic and plastic surgery are saving her career,” one person wrote on X, according to Page Six, while another said, “She must be on the ozempic bandwagon.”

“It’s a cruel world full of hate out there,” Lautner, 33, wrote, shutting down trolls, the outlet reported.

“You can never please everyone, nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn’t make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters.” He continued with a poignant reminder, writing, “And it sure isn’t the shape, color or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out … and to be a little bit nicer.”

Lautner’s words resonated with fans, who praised him for standing up for the 'Only Murders in the Building' actress.

Gomez and Lautner briefly dated in 2009 while filming 'Ramona and Beezus' and 'Twilight: New Moon' in Canada, and though their romance was short-lived, his show of support proves their bond remains strong.

'The View' calls Selena Gomez's weight change 'nobody’s business'

Taylor Lautner wasn’t the only one who stepped up to defend Selena Gomez. 'The View' hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin also had strong words for the critics during the February 26 episode.

Hostin shut down the body-shamers, pointing out that Gomez’s weight changes could be related to her ongoing battle with lupus. Goldberg agreed, saying it was “nobody’s business” to comment on the singer’s body.

Gomez has previously been candid about how her lupus treatment (an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its tissues and organs), has led to fluctuations in her weight.

“When I’m taking [the medicine], I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally,” she explained on TikTok in 2023, as per Vanity Fair.

“And then when I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight. My weight would constantly fluctuate because I would be on certain medications,” she explained.

Gomez admitted that public scrutiny over her appearance has deeply affected her mental health. However, she prioritizes her well-being over outside opinions, choosing to focus on what truly matters—her health.

“I just want people to know that you’re beautiful, and you’re wonderful,” she said.

“Yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like shit, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me,” she said.

She emphasized that she is "not a model" and "never will be," asserting that her weight is nobody's concern.

She wrapped up her video with a heartfelt message for her fans, saying, “I love you guys, and thanks for supporting me and understanding. And if not, go away, because honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for their body or anything.”
