WASHINGTON, DC: Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles revealed on Saturday, June 6, that she recently experienced a serious health scare that she described as one of the most frightening moments of her life.

In a series of posts on Instagram Stories, Biles shared photos that appeared to show hospital wristbands, flowers from supporters and images from her recovery at home. While she did not disclose the cause of the medical emergency, she said she had spent the week resting and recovering.

Biles described the incident as “one of, if not the scariest experience of my life,” while thanking family members, friends and supporters who checked on her during her recovery.

“I’ve been in bed resting this week,” she wrote.

“I’ll explain sooner or later, but shoutout to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers,” Biles added. “Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

Among the images shared were photographs of flower arrangements sent by well-wishers and what appeared to be three hospital identification wristbands. In another post, Biles shared a screenshot of a heart-rate monitor displaying a reading of 126 beats per minute, though she did not indicate whether the reading was connected to the health incident.

She also posted a photo from her bed at home with her dogs nearby, accompanied by the caption, “I’ll be here.”

The 29-year-old gymnast added that she plans to discuss the experience in greater detail at a later time, as it remains unclear what caused the medical emergency.

Health scare comes as Simone Biles continues life after Paris Olympics

The update comes less than a year after Biles added four more Olympic medals to her record-breaking career at the 2024 Paris Games, including three gold medals. With 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals, Biles remains the most decorated gymnast in history.

The gymnast is married to NFL safety Jonathan Owens, who recently signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Biles noted in her posts that Owens was in Indianapolis attending team activities when the health scare occurred.

Although Biles has not announced whether she intends to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, she recently said she is focused on recovery after the demands of the Paris Games.
