LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sofia Vergara, the 51-year-old actress, has opened up on why she did not have children with Joe Manganiello, after welcoming her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, with former husband Joe Gonzalez, 32 years ago.

The 'Modern Family' star candidly shared her thoughts on motherhood, her relationship with her son, and her life after her divorce from Manganiello.

Sofia Vergara says she couldn't have given her entire effort in raising another child

Vergara revealed that it was not the right time for her to have a baby with her husband of seven years, Joe Manganiello, the 'Magic Mike' star.

“You were very honest when your marriage to Joe ended that not wanting to have more kids became an issue. That felt empowering and brave to a lot of women. Did you see it that way?” She was asked in an interview with People.

“Yes,” she responded, “There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not."

"I was a mother already. I know what it means to be a good mother or to try to be the best mother that you can, and that takes a lot of sacrifices, takes a lot of energy," she detailed.

Vergara was married at the age of 18 to her high-school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez. She welcomed Manolo in 1991 when she was 19.

"I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world, and I’m not going to be able to give 100 percent," Vergera asserted further.

Sofia Vergara’s views on late motherhood

She explained that modern science allows women to have children at an older age. In the past, she said women typically entered menopause around age 50, which naturally ended their childbearing years.

"...Women can actually have babies older. Before, nature for some reason tells your body at 50 you are in menopause," she said, adding it means, "it’s time for you to be done with that..." she explained.

She believes there’s a natural reason for this timing. “But that’s for me, and I totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50," she said.

The 'Big Trouble' actress also shared her unique relationship with her son, saying, “It is great that I had him young."

"Because now I’m going to be 52, and he’s 32. I wish I was older sometimes, because I would’ve been more mature, more prepared to be a mother, but that was what I got and what happened," said Vergara.

"So I just kept going and try not to look back at it, because it is what it is. But it is fun because I kind of grew up together with my son," she added.

She also expressed her readiness for grandkids, saying, “I already kind of like what he does with me. Manolo has a dog, and on the weekends he just drops the dog at my house. And I used to drop him at my mom’s house during the weekend so that I could at least go out every once in a while.”

Finally, Vergara shared that she is doing fine after her divorce from Manganiello, stating, “Life has not always been easy . . . but I’ve never felt stronger.”
