Sydney Sweeney tears into Hollywood’s lofty women empowerment claims: 'All of it is fake'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sydney Sweeney has opened up about the frustrating reality of women in Hollywood tearing each other down while pretending to support one another, calling the concept of "women empowering women" a facade.
In a recent interview, Sweeney boldly declared that none of it is truly happening, describing the industry's attempts at solidarity as fake.
Sweeney’s frustration highlights the ongoing struggles women face in the entertainment industry, where support often gives way to competition and criticism.
Her comments come in the wake of a public critique from veteran Hollywood producer Carol Baum, who earlier this year criticized Sweeney’s acting skills and physical appearance at a screening event.
Sydney Sweeney says she is disheartened to see women tearing other women down
In an interview for Vanity Fair's 2025 Hollywood issue, published on November 13, Sydney Sweeney spoke out about the industry's so-called "women empowering women" movement, calling it a facade.
The 27-year-old actress expressed her disappointment, saying, "It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down."
She continued, "Especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard — hoping to achieve whatever dreams that they may have — and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done."
Sweeney also criticized the false narrative of women supporting each other, labeling it as "fake." She added, "This entire industry, all people say is ‘Women empowering other women.’ None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other s**t that they say behind everyone’s back."
Sydney Sweeney also traced the origins of these "women empowerment" claims, saying, "I mean, there’s so many studies and different opinions on the reasoning behind it."
She went on to tell Vanity Fair that the issue is deeply rooted in generational beliefs. "I’ve read that our entire lives, we were raised — and it’s a generational problem — to believe only one woman can be at the top. There’s one woman who can get the man," she explained.
"There’s one woman who can be, I don’t know, anything. So then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down instead of being like, Let’s all lift each other up."
Sydney Sweeney's fans agree with her views on women empowerment
After hearing Sydney Sweeney’s comments about women tearing each other down in Hollywood, many Facebook users quickly voiced their support for her views on women's empowerment.
One agreed with Sweeney's claims, "I believe that. Not just in Hollywood but all around the world. Pretty sure it's our human nature."
Another commented on Facebook, "She's not wrong."
A third user also agreed with Sweeney's claims, "This happens in many areas of life - women empowering other women is usually virtue signaling and almost always performative!"
One netizen explained, "Unfortunately, there are less seats for women at the table, leading to competition for limited spots. If more opportunities existed for women, there would be less fear and more empowerment. I wish more women supported other women but it’s a harsh truth."
One worried fan motivated the actress, "Stay strong Sydney."
One expressed frustration, "That's the way it is in 90% of the country/businesses! It's straight up disgusting!"
A last user added, "Many women hate other women for really stupid reasons these days."
