WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr affirmed that he is actively considering both New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura as his vice-presidential pick for the presidential election in 2024, the New York Times reported.

Kennedy's announcement on Tuesday followed early February reports that the 70-year-old independent presidential candidate was "close to picking" a running mate.

"He's considering Aaron Rodgers and Jesse Ventura as running mates, along with others on a shortlist," a Kennedy campaign spokesperson stated Tuesday. "No other details available."

What did RFK Jr say about Rodgers and Ventura in the interview?

Kennedy Jr disclosed to The New York Times that he has been in communication with the 40-year-old quarterback of the New York Jets "pretty continuously" for the past month.

He also revealed that he has been in contact with the 72-year-old former professional wrestler since February.

Aaron Rodgers, a highly accomplished quarterback, who has secured a Super Bowl championship and four MVP awards, is anticipated to make a comeback this season following an injury sustained in the first game of the 2023 season that kept him off the field.

In the previous year, Rodgers lent his support to Kennedy Jr, after discovering their shared opposition to Covid vaccines.

On Saturday last week, Rodgers re-tweeted Kennedy's reaction to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on X, remarking, "This is presidential."

Jesse Ventura held the position of the Governor of Minnesota for a single term from 1999 to 2003. He won the gubernatorial elections of Minnesota in 1998, marking the first victory of a Reform Party candidate in a statewide contest, per NBC News.

Ventura's term concluded following the first term, as he did not seek re-election.

Prior to his political career, Ventura was a professional wrestler for the World Wrestling Federation, according to People. Last month, during a campaign event in Arizona, Ventura introduced Kennedy Jr onstage.

The son of slain Senator Robert F Kennedy and the nephew of slain President John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy Jr began his campaign as a Democrat last year but ultimately chose to run as an independent candidate after having struggled to garner adequate support from the Democratic base.

The Democratic National Committee took note of RFK Jr’s recent announcement of a potential running mate, bashing his shortlist and comparing it to the erstwhile comedy group ‘Three Stooges.’

Democratic National Committee senior adviser Mary Beth Cahill said in a statement, “The Three Stooges reunion no one was asking for. It’s no surprise this is the shortlist considering the conspiracy theorist doing the choosing.”

A recent Quinnipiac University survey, conducted last month, analyzed a hypothetical race involving former President Donald Trump, incumbent President Joe Biden, and Kennedy Jr, who was an independent candidate.

The poll revealed that 38% of self-identified registered voters nationwide would support Biden, followed by 37% for Trump, and 15% for Kennedy.

The margin of error for the survey, which included 1,421 participants, was plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.

Internet mocks RFK Jr. for considering Aaron Rodgers for Vice President

People on X ridiculed the 70-year-old presidential hopeful for contemplating choices that many claimed sounded unappealing in the first place.

One X user remarked: “What could go wrong?"

Another user argued: "What does @AaronRodgers12 know about being vice president? The biggest appeal to Kennedy picking Rogers is his "celebrity" and his anti-vaxx stance."

Another user wrote: "Clearly he's hit the death spiral phase of his candidacy"

One user claimed: "LOL!! They will take the antivaxx vote from tRump!"

Another X user quipped: "Between the Jets and RFK Jr., Aaron Rodgers apparently just loves joining losing teams."

Finally, this user tweeted: "Conspiracy theorist Zero experience Hates science and facts Hired!"
