Ariana Grande appears to shade Carrie Underwood over her 'pitchy' performance at Trump's inauguration
WASHINGTON, DC: Ariana Grande appeared to subtly criticize fellow singer Carrie Underwood after the 'American Idol' winner's performance of 'America the Beautiful' at Donald Trump’s inauguration was plagued by technical difficulties.
The country star faced an awkward moment on Monday, January 20, when the track for her performance failed to play.

The event, originally scheduled to take place outdoors, was moved indoors due to freezing temperatures.
The technical glitch left Underwood standing in silence before she attempted an a capella rendition of the patriotic song. "If you know the words, help me out here," she pleaded with the audience before starting to sing.

Both Underwood and Trump were seen grimacing as the mishap unfolded, casting an unsettling atmosphere over the performance.
Ahead of her performance, Underwood had already faced backlash for agreeing to sing at the event, and now Grande appears to have joined the chorus of critics.
The 'Wicked' star reportedly liked an Instagram post from internet personality Evan Ross Katz, who poked fun at Underwood's performance.

The post featured an image of Underwood singing into the microphone while Vice President Kamala Harris stood behind her, appearing unimpressed.
Katz captioned the post, "Kamala Harris evoking Coco Montrese (‘Girl, find the note’) watching Carrie Underwood at today’s chilling Inauguration," referencing a famous quote from RuPaul’s 'Drag Race'.

Internet trashes Carrie Underwood's 'pitchy' performance
Much like Ariana Grande, most netizens were unimpressed with Carrie Underwood's a capella rendition of 'America the Beautiful'.
One said, "In case you missed Carrie Underhood, er, Underwood's performance. It was pitchy and uninspired. Consider yourself lucky," and another wrote, "She sounded awful."
"Pitchy is her brand," a person declared, while someone else stated, "I turned the tv off."
"Well the music failure left her unable to hide her actually voice. Most singers modify with technology to improve flaws," one comment read.
"So no Autotune was available for her vocal through the PA then," another person wrote.

Carrie Underwood had a 'hissy fit' after her performance at the inauguration performance
On her decision to perform at the event, Carrie Underwood said in a statement, "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," as per USA Today.
"I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future," the 'Hate My Heart' singer added.
Sources close to Underwood revealed that the singer felt dissatisfied with her performance and the circumstances surrounding it.
"Carrie was dissatisfied with her performance at the event, primarily due to the limited space she was given, which left her feeling cramped and uncomfortable," an insider shared with Daily Mail.
They added, "Her anxiety was high throughout the performance, and she felt that she was not afforded the same level of respect or admiration that previous performers, such as Beyonce and Lady Gaga, had received. She felt as if she was ushered in and out and had a mini hissy fit afterwards."
The source also noted that Underwood, who is used to performing on massive stages, was unprepared for the intimate setup.
"She was literally just in a room with people all around her and a microphone. This threw off the acoustics," the insider explained.
Despite her frustrations, Underwood reportedly feels "proud of herself" for salvaging the performance.
In addition to the 41-year-old country singer, Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Parker McCollum, Billy Ray Cyrus, Gavin DeGraw, and Liberty University's Praise Choir performed during the inauguration festivities.
Trump himself made headlines during the weekend, dancing on stage with 'YMCA' hitmakers the Village People prior to his inauguration.
