Book reveals King Charles' decision over Meghan Markle which left Prince Harry 'furious'
MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's epic feud with the royal family dates back to their wedding in May 2018, where financial troubles first sparked tensions, claims a book.
Royal author Robert Jobson revealed in his new book, 'Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen', that Harry "claimed his father told him there wasn't 'enough money to go around' for Meghan because he was already supporting William and Catherine."
King Charles’ decision was made with care, says royal author
Jobson explained that this decision from then-Prince Charles was not made lightly or with ill intent.
"At the outset, Charles had made a concerted effort to form a relationship with Harry's fiancee," he added. "'She is so intelligent and so nice,' he said. 'She makes Harry happy. We could not like her more'."
However, the book reads that when the issue of money arose, the goodwill vanished.
"Harry was furious — feeling that he and Meghan were entitled to lavish handouts from 'Pa' in return for agreeing to serve the Crown," Jobson further observed.
At the time, Prince Charles was using his considerable Duchy of Cornwall estate income to fund his own lavish lifestyle, the expenses of Camilla, and the entire Cambridge family, including Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children.
He had also been supporting Harry's household for years.
Harry quite literally distanced himself from his royal family when he and Meghan decided to leave royal life behind for the US in 2020, citing media intrusions and racist attitudes toward Meghan, who is biracial.
While Prince Harry maintains contact with his father, his relationship with Prince William has deteriorated beyond repair.
The release of Harry's memoir, 'Spare', further strained the already fragile bond between the brothers, leading to a complete breakdown in communication.
Prince Charles used Duchy of Cornwall funds for lifestyle
During the peak of 'Megxit' in early 2020, Charles made a final grand gesture, allocating £4.7 million ($6M) from the Duchy to cover the expenses of both royal couples and their households.
A significant portion of the Sussexes' share likely went toward their big move to Montecito, California.
On September 8, 2022, the world mourned the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and King Charles III ascended the throne.
Simultaneously, Prince William became the Duke of Cornwall, inheriting the prosperous Duchy from his father.
In a twist of fate, King Charles received a shocking cancer diagnosis in early February, leading to a father-son reunion between him and Prince Harry.
However, despite hopes for reconciliation, the reunion didn't mend the rift, and Meghan was conspicuously absent.
"The brothers are barely speaking so the idea of William wanting Harry to come back and represent the firm is both laughable and unthinkable," a royal insider revealed in March.
"The advice was for Harry to leave it a while and come to see his father in Sandringham while he was recuperating, but there was a big rush for Harry to come and see his father. It was all very last minute hence why the meeting was so short."
Prince William was conspicuously absent from the visit, having seemingly made a deliberate choice to steer clear of his younger brother.
During the brief February 6 reunion, which lasted either 45 minutes or a mere 12 minutes, the older prince remained notably out of sight.
