SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk has dismissed reports suggesting he is donating $45 million monthly to support former president Donald Trump.

In an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson on X, Musk refuted these claims, labeling them as "ridiculous," Fortune Magazine reported.

During the interview, Peterson asked Musk about his alleged substantial financial support for Trump's campaign. Musk responded by setting the record straight. "What’s been reported in the media is simply not true. I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump," he stated.

The initial report came from The Wall Street Journal, citing sources "familiar with the matter." Despite Musk’s denial, the publication has not retracted or updated its story.

However, Musk confirmed the creation of a super political action committee (PAC) named America PAC, designed to support Trump. Unlike traditional PACs, super PACs can raise unlimited amounts of money for independent campaign expenditures, such as ads and operations, without directly donating to the campaign.

America PAC has garnered support from several notable tech industry leaders. Contributors include Ken Howery, an early PayPal executive, Antonio Gracias, a private equity leader, Sequoia Capital’s Shaun Maguire, and the Winklevoss twins.

The super PAC is partly led by Joe Lonsdale, a politically ambitious venture capitalist and co-founder of Palantir.

Musk emphasized that America PAC is not intended to be a hyperpartisan organization. He clarified that he does not align with the MAGA movement but rather supports a vision of "Making America Greater."

"I don’t prescribe to [a] cult of personality," Musk explained. Nonetheless, he praised Trump’s resilience after surviving an assassination attempt on July 13, arguing that such strength intimidates America’s adversaries.

When pressed by Peterson on his shift from the Democratic party to supporting Trump, Musk pointed to what he sees as the Democrats' embrace of censorship.

He also criticized a lawsuit filed by the Justice Department against his company SpaceX, alleging that the company discouraged refugees and asylum seekers from applying for jobs. A court order eventually blocked the US from pursuing the lawsuit.

"Yeah, it’s ridiculous. I am making some donations to America PAC, but at a much lower level and the key values of the PAC are supporting a meritocracy & individual freedom. Republicans are mostly, but not entirely, on the side of merit & freedom," Musk added on X.
