WASHINGTON, DC: The White House issued a response on Saturday to the Republican party’s criticism regarding the annual observance of Transgender Day of Visibility, which falls on March 31, coinciding with Easter this year.

President Joe Biden's proclamation on Friday, recognizing the significance of Transgender Day of Visibility, drew ire from GOP lawmakers who accused him of mocking faith given the overlap with the auspicious festival for Christians.

This is not the first time that President Biden has recognized the importance of this day during his tenure in the Oval Office, according to The Hill.

The GOP, from former President Donald Trump’s campaign team to the House leadership, has voiced their disapproval of the 81-year-old incumbent President's proclamation.

How did Republicans react to President Biden’s proclamation?

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) posted Saturday on X, “The Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

"Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as “Transgender Day”—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note,” Johnson added.

In an official statement, former President Donald Trump's campaign team stated that the POTUS ought to “issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

Criticism from conservative circles has been directed towards the Commander-in-Chief, who is a Catholic, for what they perceive to be an act of undermining faith.

The proclamation of the event, which coincided with such a significant religious holiday in Easter, has been their primary point of contention with the Democratic President.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates responded to GOP criticism on Saturday, by saying, “As a Christian who celebrates Easter with Family, President Biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American.”

“Sadly, it’s unsurprising politicians are seeking to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric,” Bates remarked, adding. “President Biden will never abuse his faith for political purposes or for profit.”

The Transgender Day of Visibility, a commemorative event instituted 15 years ago, is a celebration of transgender individuals and serves to highlight the discrimination they often confront. It is noteworthy that Easter, a religious holiday, is not fixed to a specific date and instead varies annually.

Internet trashes the GOP

People on X brutally shredded the entire Republican party for their incessant, often baseless bickering which amounts to the promotion or propagation of regressive ideas and way of thinking.

One X user remarked, “Fake issue created by worst people in America"

"It’s more like Easter falls on Transgender Day of Visibility. It’s always on 3/31, Easter isn’t," another user said.

Another user wrote, "Trans Visibility has been on the 31st for 15 years Easter isn't always on the 31st. Brains though aren't the haters strong points."

One user argued, "Actually, Easter moves, so Easter falls on Trans Visibility Day this year."

Another X user retaliated, "So what @HouseGOP support a convicted r*pist a frauder a conman a known traitorous Insurrectionist."

Another user remarked, "Maggots are stupid."

One user tweeted, "It has been the 31 of March for 15 years, including under Trump you lying bigoted fraud w**kers! Will the 31st March be Easter Sunday next year, bozos! PS: Lying for a r*pist, racist, crook is a s**t look! @GOP @SenateGOP @HouseGOP @LeaderMcConnell @SpeakerJohnson"
