LONDON, ENGLAND: Michael J Fox, the 62-year-old actor known for his long-standing battle with Parkinson's disease, received a heartfelt standing ovation at the 2024 British Academy Film Awards.

Despite his health challenges, Fox took to the stage in a wheelchair to present the Best Film award to 'Oppenheimer', earning the admiration and respect of Hollywood's elite.

Additionally, fans expressed their worries about his health on social media.

Michael J Fox who has been battling Parkinson's since 1991, received a warm reception at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards.

Assisted to the podium, he announced that the Best Rewrite Film award was given to Christopher Nolan's film, which won seven awards in total, per Daily Mail.

Entering the stage in a wheelchair, Fox was greeted with applause from fellow stars, including Margot Robbie, Bradley Cooper, and Barry Keoghan, at London's Royal Festival Hall.

The iconic actor from the 80s was visibly moved by the response as he announced the nominees and the winner.

Fox, known for his role in 'Back To The Future', had earlier graced the red carpet with his wife, Tracy Pollan.

Michael J Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at the young age of 29 in 1991, and he shared this news with the public in 1998.

In 2023, he released a documentary on Apple TV+ that delved into his career and his journey with the debilitating disease, earning him a BAFTA nomination.

Michael not only presented the final award of the evening, but he was also recognized for his documentary, 'Still: A Michael J Fox Story,' which was nominated in the Documentary category.

In an interview with the BBC regarding the nomination of his documentary, Michael referred to his condition as a "gift," albeit one that "keeps on taking."

Parkinson's disease, a progressive neurological disorder, is characterized by symptoms such as tremors, slow movement, and muscle stiffness.

The disease is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, leading to the loss of nerve cells in the brain. Despite ongoing research, the exact cause of this cell loss remains unknown, per the outlet.
