INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA: On Thursday, April 17, during an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, former Vice President Mike Pence announced that he would not endorse former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.

However, when asked whether he would vote for Trump, Pence suggested that he might consider doing so, according to HuffPost.

Last month, Pence stated that he could not, “in good conscience,” endorse Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee this year.

While he did not explicitly declare that he would not vote for the 77-year-old MAGA strongman, Pence's comments highlight the tension between his loyalty to the Republican Party and his own personal values.

What did Mike Pence tell Jake Tapper on Thursday?

The former governor of Indiana told the network anchor, “I’ll just keep my vote to myself, you know. I’d never vote for Joe Biden.”

Pence has highlighted some of the differences he shares with Trump on various issues, including “my constitutional duties on Jan 6, Trump's foreign policy stance, and his rejection of the notion of signing a national abortion ban if elected."

According to Pence, Trump is “shying away from our commitment as leader of the free world.”

The ex-Veep continued, “I’ve just made it clear that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump in this campaign. But I’ll keep my vote on my own and I’ll vote according to my conscience in private just like every American will.”

Former Illinois GOP congressman Joe Walsh chastised Pence for his evasive response, posting on X, “There is just no defense for this. Pence, who said he won’t ENDORSE Trump, refuses to say whether or not he’ll VOTE for Trump. Huh? Huh? Huh? My God man, get some gumption and take a stand. Take a stand man.”

Last year, Mike Pence announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination, however, he failed to gain significant support from the outset.

Following the January 6, 2021, insurrection, in which Trump supporters rioted at the Capitol building, Pence's relationship with Donald Trump deteriorated after the then-Vice President refused to aid's the then-POTUS’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

During the riots, Trump's supporters chanted for Pence to be hanged. Pence is among several former officials who worked in Trump's White House and have declined to endorse him for a second term, although his criticism has been less severe than that of others.

Despite some Republicans denouncing Trump after his presidency, it has become apparent that he will be the GOP nominee for the third consecutive occasion, with several having since flip-flopped on their stance and declared their support for him later.

Since leaving office, Donald Trump has been charged with 91 felonies across four criminal indictments. The first of those to go to trial pertains to the hush money criminal case, which began jury selection earlier this week.

Internet slams Mike Pence for sidestepping when answering whether he will vote for Trump in 2024

One X user remarked, "If 'they wanted to hang me' is not enough to not vote for Trump then I'm not sure what to tell you, Mike."

Another user said, "They’re all spineless."

Another user wrote, "Never has there been a more spineless poor excuse of a man than @Mike_Pence. History is going to mock you, coward."

One user asked, "And who does he think this appeals to?"

Another X user argued, "He tried to kill you."

Another user quipped, "Pence: "I've gotta have my cake and eat it, too!""

Finally, this user tweeted, "Mother told him to vote for the person with the (R) after his name."
