How Angelina Jolie's daughter Zahara and Kamala Harris' unlikely connection makes them sisters for life
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It seems Zahara Jolie's life is a heady brew of Hollywood glam and political connections.
As the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, she’s officially already part of Hollywood royalty. But now she’s added another title to her resume: Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sister.
It's worth noting that this 360,000+ women-strong sorority just so happens to have a well-known alum in Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris and Zahara Jolie are Alpha Kappa Alpha sisters
In November last year, Zahara Jolie officially joined Spelman College’s Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter. Alpha Kappa Alpha isn’t just any sorority—it’s the first-ever Black sorority founded at the Howard University campus in 1908. For over a century, it’s been shaping leaders, thinkers, and game-changers.
Harris, the first woman of color to serve as vice president of the US, was also a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha sister during her Howard University days. Now Zahara gets to claim that same sisterhood.
Alpha Kappa Alpha paved the way for others in the Divine Nine, a collective of historically Black fraternities and sororities.
Of course, the organization isn’t just about secret handshakes and cute merch (although, let’s be honest, they do have the cutest paraphernalia). The sorority boasts considerable influence, with members who are trailblazers in all walks of life.
During Harris' 2024 campaign, Alpha Kappa Alpha wasn’t just a cheerleader on the sidelines.
Members rallied together, raising millions of dollars, forming a pro-Harris political action committee (PAC), and mobilizing voters like pros. Let’s not forget Harris showing up at Alpha Kappa Alpha's biennial convention earlier this year.
And it’s not just about politics. Alpha Kappa Alpha is a lifelong sisterhood, as their CEO Danette Anthony Reed said, as quoted by CNN, "When you become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, you become a member for life."
Zahara Jolie's political leanings and the differences in her family
Before she even stepped into sorority life, Zahara Jolie was already privy to the world of politics. Back in December 2022, she joined her mother, Angelina Jolie, in Washington, DC, to advocate for the Justice for All Reauthorization Act.
The legislation aimed to make justice more accessible for victims, and Zahara was right there in the thick of it — even meeting with Democrat heavyweights like Patrick Leahy and Chuck Schumer.
That said, Zahara’s family isn’t exactly on the same page politically. Angelina has been vocal about her progressive views, often advocating for human rights and justice. But then there's her father, Jon Voight, an Oscar-winning actor and unapologetic Donald Trump supporter.
Let’s not forget his viral November 2020 video where he ranted about Joe Biden being the devil, which racked up tens of thousands of views on X (formerly Twitter).
Things between the 'Salt' actress and her father haven’t exactly improved since. According to reports, the two have been clashing over her stance on the Israel-Hamas war and her messy divorce from Brad.
And speaking of the 'Fight Club' actor, his relationship with Zahara and her siblings seems to be on rocky ground. While Zahara’s building her sisterhood and stepping into her own power, it’s clear she’s got her mother and chosen family in her corner.
