LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On a recent episode of the 'Pod Save America' podcast, MSNBC host Jen Psaki made a strong case for Vice President Kamala Harris as the top Democratic candidate to replace President Joe Biden if he decides to step down.

However, Psaki also expressed concerns about the deeply ingrained “sexist” and “racist” aspects of American society that could hinder Harris’ chances of success.

Biden has shut down speculations that he might pull out of the presidential race saying only “the Lord Almighty” can convince him to quit, some Democrats are looking at contenders who could replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.

During her conversation with podcast co-host Jon Lovett on Wednesday, July 10, Jen Psaki praised Kamala Harris for her skills as a campaigner and communicator, emphasizing that she is the most viable candidate for the Democratic nomination in the event of Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

“There’s a lot of really amazing Democrats on the bench, but because of the timeline and everything, I think it is clearly Kamala Harris,” Psaki said, highlighting Harris as the best alternative to Biden.

Psaki also addressed the reality of Harris’ current unpopularity and suggested that public opinion may not yet reflect Harris’ capabilities.

She explained, “It’s almost like public opinion hasn’t caught up with what she is doing out there, and also we live in a country that is sexist and racist, so, like, there is that.”

Psaki’s remarks come amid increasing discussion within the Democratic Party about whether Biden should continue as the party’s candidate, especially following his lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump last month.

Jen Psaki critiques Joe Biden’s debate performance

After the presidential debate hosted by CNN on Juene 27, Jen Psaki was vocal about Joe Biden’s performance on X, stating, “It was a bad debate. I have no doubt they were tough, strategic and direct. (Believe me I have seen them in action) but prep does not always determine the outcome. Biden was bad. Important convos about what happens next. But if you are directing your ire at ‘prep’ you are not talking about the right things.”

The former White House press secretary has been outspoken about the need for the Democratic Party to consider its options for the future. Recently, she has warned that “the clock is ticking” for Democrats to make a decision on whether to replace Biden.

During her discussion with Lovett, Psaki underscored that the conversation about potential alternatives to Biden is ongoing and that Harris stands out as the clear choice, saying, “There is a question out there that, again, I think campaigns are talking about, about the alternative. The best option is very clearly Kamala Harris.”

Reflecting on Harris’ potential, Psaki expressed disappointment that there hasn’t been a stronger push for her as a presidential candidate.

“I don’t know why there hasn’t been kind of an overwhelming ‘Kamala would be a great president and she would be a fierce, amazing campaigner,’ right?” she questioned, lamenting the lack of enthusiastic support for Harris.

Psaki’s comments concluded with a nuanced acknowledgment of the factors influencing public opinion, as she clarified, “Not everybody at all, but there is a level of it that does impact elections,” recognizing that while not universal, bias still plays a role in shaping political outcomes.

Internet reacts to Jen Psaki’s comments on Kamala Harris

Jen Psaki’s remarks on Kamala Harris as the best alternative to President Biden ignited a flurry of responses on social media, with many users pushing back against her views. Critics argue that Psaki’s emphasis on societal bias as a hurdle for Harris is misplaced.

One user wrote, "She’s not even running yet and they’re starting with the victimhood and excuses. The problem is her attitude and lack of competence, not her race and gender."

Another user commented, "Sure! Buttigieg, Whitmer, Sanders, etc. LOL. Lots to choose from!"

One user said, "I'm sorry jen, you've lost all credibility, along with the rest of them. Bye-bye."

One said, "Ms. Psaki obviously has no good argument to make for either Ms. Harris or the progressive policies they both support."

Another replied, "There we go shes gonna lose cause America is sexist and racist not cause kamala is a complete and utter joke of a politician."
