WASHINGTON, DC: The political landscape took a dramatic turn when the Biden-Harris campaign officially rebranded, filing paperwork to drop President Joe Biden, the New York Post reports.

This move comes just hours after the 81-year-old President announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race and has sparked a wave of reactions and set the stage for a heated election season.

Biden campaign officially changes name to 'Harris for President'

In a filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the campaign requested a name change to "Harris for President," simultaneously designating the Harris Victory Fund and the Harris Action Fund as its joint fundraising committees.

This marks a significant shift in the Democratic Party’s strategy, positioning Vice President Kamala Harris as the new standard bearer.

"Vice President Harris is now a candidate for United States President in the 2024 election and will henceforth be conducting campaign activities only in pursuit of that office. This committee’s Statement of Organization and the Statement of Candidacy are being amended accordingly," Harris's team declared in the FEC notice.

Shortly after this announcement, Biden publicly endorsed Harris, reinforcing her position as the party’s leading candidate. "My intention is to earn and win this nomination," Harris affirmed, setting a confident tone for her campaign.

Financially, the campaign ended June with nearly $96 million in cash on hand, according to FEC filings. When combined with allied commitments and the Democratic National Committee, this figure rises to over $240 million.

However, Republicans have hinted at possible legal challenges to prevent Harris from accessing these funds or complicating the ballot name changes.

"Every state has its own system, and in some of these, it’s not possible to simply just switch out a candidate," Speaker Mike Johnson remarked on ABC’s 'This Week.'

With the Democratic National Convention in Chicago just weeks away, the question remains whether any prominent Democrat will challenge Harris for the nomination.

Endorsements for Harris have already begun pouring in from key figures within the party, who are wary of a contested convention that could potentially divide the Democrats before the crucial November 5 election.
