NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Senator Tim Scott claimed on Wednesday, May 15 that former President Donald Trump simply needed to be himself in order to win the upcoming presidential debates against incumbent Joe Biden.

The presumptive Republican and Democratic nominees have agreed to participate in presidential debates months ahead of the 2024 elections, and the two scheduled debates will be hosted by CNN and ABC on June 27 and September 10, respectively.

Tim Scott's advice for Donald Trump ahead of the debates with Joe Biden

During an interview on Newsmax, the Republican from South Carolina was asked what President Trump "needed to do to really get under Biden's skin."

"Well, President Trump needs to be Donald J Trump," replied the Senator, as seen in a clip uploaded on the social media platform X.

"America loves President Trump because he is plain spoken, easy to understand, and he is clear as a bell," he added.

Ground rules for the presidential debates between Trump and Biden

While accepting the invitation for the debates, the incumbent's team issued a list of demands to the Commission on Presidential Debates detailing the critical limits to be placed on any debate between Biden and Trump.

The former president has agreed to all the terms set forth, which include no live audience, exclusion of third-party candidates, muting of microphones after speaking time of candidates, and new eligibility criteria for television networks that can host the debates.

Internet mocks Tim Scott for trying to stay on the VP list

Reacting to Scott's interview clip on X, a user wrote, "Tim Scott (in his head): I will say whatever & lick his boot as much as possible to stay on that VP list."

"Because he has the vocabulary of a grader," jibed a third, taking on Trump.

"Tim Scott is smoking some good stuff if he believes this," chided a fourth user.

"Then why do they always try to tell us that he didn’t mean what he said," commented a fifth.

"We must see a different person than he sees, because I sure am not seeing that," observed a sixth.
