Meghan Markle reveals secret 2019 NYC trip
During the opening of the bookstore in the oceanside enclave of Summerland over the weekend, Meghan Markle recalled how she orchestrated a secret trip to New York from the UK in 2019 to watch Serena Williams play in the US Open, as reported by Town and Country.
At the time, she also visited a bookstore. She told those in attendance, “For me, sneaking to New York five years ago was a really big deal.”
“I was still so uncomfortable being out in the world. The safety of what I was craving, I knew I could find in a bookstore,” the mother of two asserted.

Meghan Markle claimed she ‘didn’t want to be alive' during her time in the royal family
In March 2021, during a bombshell interview the couple gave to Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle revealed that she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time in the UK as part of the Royal Family.
During the sit-down, Meghan claimed, as per Harpers Bazaar, “I was really ashamed to say it at the time, and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry, especially because I know how much loss he suffered. But I knew that if I didn’t say it that I would do it.
“And I just didn’t. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought. And I remember how he just cradled me.”
The 43-year-old businesswoman also mentioned that she shared her issue with an unnamed royal family member but the response she got was, “My heart goes out to you because I see how bad it is, but there’s nothing we can do to protect you because you’re not a paid employee of the institution.”
“I share this because there are so many people who are afraid to voice that they need help. And I know personally how hard it is to not just voice it but when you voice it to be told no,” she added at the time.
Harry also extended his support to his wife by noting, “The way that I saw it was there was a way of doing things, but for us, for this union and the specifics around her race, there was an opportunity, many opportunities, for my family to show some public support.”
