SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine found himself behind bars once again last week, when he was detained in the Dominican Republic on domestic violence charges. However, his latest stint in jail proved short-lived.

After his girlfriend refused to corroborate accusations made by her own mother, a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence against the rapper known for his outlandish appearance and brazen taunting of rivals and authorities alike. This week, Tekashi was granted bail and released, though his legal troubles look far from over, as reported by Daily Mail.

Tekashi 6ix9ine cannot leave Dominican Republic without judicial permission

Tekashi was released on bail Thursday, January 25, from a Dominican Republic jail after being arrested last week on domestic violence charges. The 27-year-old artist, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, had been held in custody since January 17 when Wanda Daaz, mother of his girlfriend Yailin La Mas Viral, accused him of assault.

During a hearing, Judge Fatima Veloz set bail at 30,000 pesos (about $509 USD) after Tekashi’s girlfriend, whose real name is Georgina Guillermo, contradicted her mother’s claims and said Tekashi had never assaulted her.

As part of his release, the rapper cannot leave the Dominican Republic without judicial permission and must appear in court every two months.

Tekashi 6ix9ine's girlfriend contradicted mom's version of events

Daaz did not attend the hearing, citing complications from recent cosmetic surgery. Last week in a YouTube livestream, she claimed Tekashi had beaten both her and her daughter.

"One time I was with [Yailin], they were arguing, he pushed me, he slammed me because I got involved, because he hit my daughter," Daaz said. "I was thrown to the ground. [Tekashi’s] security did nothing. I was there telling him not to continue beating my daughter and he kept on and I got involved," she added.

However, when given the opportunity in court, Yailin contradicted her mother’s version of events. "The evidence they presented against Tekashi is not valid as established in the law," said the rapper’s lawyer, Waldo Paulino. "Wanda has said a lie against Daniel Hernandez."

Domestic violence arrest latest brush with law for Tekashi 6ix9ine

The recent arrest represents just the latest brush with the law for Tekashi in the Caribbean nation. In October 2023, he was accused of assaulting two local music producers in an altercation caught partially on surveillance video. The rapper can allegedly be seen wearing a black ski mask while several unidentified individuals storm into the recording studio.

Tekashi also admitted in a 2019 US trial to using the services of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods to carry out violent acts against rivals, avoiding significant jail time by testifying against gang members.

Since relocating to the Dominican Republic where his girlfriend Yailin resides, he has maintained involvement with local music production. In March 2023, several unknown assailants physically attacked the rapper at a gym in Florida.

Tekashi first achieved mainstream success with his 2018 collaboration 'Fefe' alongside singer Nicki Minaj, which peaked at No 3 on pop music charts. However, his career has been overshadowed by continuous legal issues and public scandals.
