RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: An Iranian missile and drone strike on a US military base in Saudi Arabia left 10 American service members wounded, according to the Wall Street Journal on Saturday, March 28, citing multiple US officials. Officials indicated that the attack targeted a key military installation, damaged aircraft, and marked a further escalation in the conflict.

The strike comes amid heightened tensions following a joint US-Israel operation launched on February 28 targeting Iran’s military, political establishment, and nuclear enrichment program.

The attack struck Prince Sultan Air Base, where US troops were stationed. According to US and Arab officials cited in the report, at least one missile and multiple drones were used in the assault. The strike hit a building housing American personnel, resulting in injuries to 10 service members.

Among those injured, two troops were reported to be in critical condition. The attack also caused damage to several US refueling aircraft stationed at the base, used by the US Air Force's 378th Air Expeditionary Wing.

The air base, located just south of Saudi Arabia’s capital, had previously been targeted in an Iranian missile strike that damaged five US refueling aircraft on March 14.

More than 300 American service members have been wounded in action as part of the conflict with Iran, most of whom have returned to duty, a US Central Command spokesperson said Friday. Since the conflict began, 13 US service members have been killed.

One service member, wounded in an earlier attack on Prince Sultan Air Base, later succumbed to injuries, while six were killed in an Iranian strike on a US facility in Kuwait just hours after the conflict began. Another six personnel died in the crash of a US refueling aircraft over Iraq, adding to the overall toll.

Trump warns of further action as pressure builds on Iran

President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute summit on Friday, March 27, where he outlined his administration’s stance on Iran and ongoing military operations.

The president stated that the US still has “another 3,554” targets remaining in Iran, adding, “That’ll be done pretty quickly.” He further asserted that Iran, once a powerful nation, “it’s not powerful anymore. They’ve never seen anything like it.”

During his address, Trump also urged more Middle Eastern nations to join the Abraham Accords, describing them as a key foreign policy achievement from his first term. He said, “We hope all of the countries are going to be in the Abraham Accords. We have some very brave countries that did it.”

In a lighter moment, Trump referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Trump” while addressing the audience at the summit. “They have to open it up, they have to open up the Strait of Trump. I mean Hormuz,” he said, before adding humorously, “Excuse me, I’m so sorry. Such a terrible mistake.”

He continued, “Fake news will say ‘he accidentally said.’ No, there’s no accidents with me. Not too many.” Trump has also demanded that Iran fully reopen the strategically vital waterway in the coming days, warning that failure to do so would result in severe consequences, including threats to “obliterate” the country’s power plants.

On Thursday, he said he was extending his deadline by 10 days as “talks are ongoing” with Iran, setting a new deadline of Monday, April 6.
