PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump sustained an injury on his right ear when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at him while he was speaking at a Butler, Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, July 13.

Within moments Secret Service agents took the GOP presidential nominee offstage while snipers took down the gunman. Unfortunately, one person was killed and two attendees were injured in the incident, which was deemed an assassination attempt by the FBI.

Approximately five years before this fateful event, the 78-year-old MAGA figurehead made predictions about how his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, would react if he were shot, as reportedly by The List.

According to Politico, the remarks were made at a 2019 fundraiser, where the then-president shared many opinions and jokes with the conservative crowd.

At one point, he referenced House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) injury from a 2017 shooting incident. The Louisiana lawmaker was preparing for a charity baseball game with fellow GOP lawmakers at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park when 66-year-old James Hodgkinson opened fire at them.

Trump remarked that Steve's wife Jennifer Scalise "cried her eyes out when I met her at the hospital that fateful day ... I mean not many wives would react that way to tragedy, I know mine wouldn't."

Melania Trump released a statement advocating unity following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump

It remains unclear how Melania Trump reacted to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in private. However, she did release a statement a day after the tragic incident.

She wrote, "When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron's life, were on the brink of devastating change."

She thanked the Secret Service and offered condolences to the families of the victims.

The former first lady also emphasized the importance of unity and urged people to remember that politicians are humans too.

"A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion – his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration. The core facets of my husband’s life – his human side – were buried below the political machine," noted Melania.

She stressed, "Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love. We are all humans, and fundamentally, instinctively, we want to help one another. American politics is only one vehicle that can uplift our communities. Love, compassion, kindness, and empathy are necessities."

However, one notable omission from her statement didn’t go unnoticed, as she only referred to herself and her son Barron Trump, ignoring her son's half-siblings or her stepchildren, Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump.

Will Melania Trump maintain a distance from Donald Trump's 2024 reelection bid?

Melania Trump has maintained a distance from Donald Trump's 2024 campaign activities, ostensibly for the sake of their son Barron Trump's privacy.

However, the question arises as to whether she will continue to remain absent from the campaign trail in light of recent security concerns.

Melania did not attend the Republican National Convention (RNC) for the first three days, despite earlier indications by GOP officials.

However, Amber Rose did acknowledge the former first lady during her address.

On Wednesday, Day Three of the RNC, Eric informed 'CBS Mornings' that both his sister, Ivanka, and stepmother, Melania, would participate in the event. He said, "They're coming in, and they're coming in full force and effect, so they'll certainly be here."

Later in the interview, Eric added, "There's no family, I don't think, in political history that's remained closer than our family."

While it remains plausible that Melania might make an appearance in Milwaukee on Thursday to express her support for her husband, there’s no indication yet that she might turn up to deliver an address for her husband’s ever-ardent followers at the RNC.
